As a student, Andrea founded NYU’s Association for International Development and Entrepreneurship and led her peers in entrepreneurial endeavors for charity. Her dedication to service work extended beyond campus as well. Over the past several years, Andrea’s been involved with various charitable causes and socially conscious organizations including Styleta, the non-profit she helped launch while still in school.

During Welcome Week, Ania connected with her cohort and embarked on the semester-long Cohort Leadership Project designed to foster collaboration as well as individual growth. “The weekly cohort sessions as well as the numerous social events created an instant sense of community and friendship.”

The company Hello Rewind, which recycles old t-shirts into custom laptop sleeves, provides survivors with job training and economic support. “Since Hello Rewind is still expanding, as Operations and PR Marketing intern, I had my hand in many different areas. I performed market research, wrote retail strategies, liaised with potential business partners, as well as processed orders and helped produce the laptop sleeves.”

As a member of Stern's student organization SEAD (Student Enrichment for Academic Development), junior Earl Roach is dedicated to the club’s mission of promoting excellence in academics and leadership as well as fostering support and collaboration among students. “I joined SEAD as a freshman and had such a positive community experience that I was inspired to take on a leadership role in the group.”

Ben, who is double-majoring in Finance and Economics with a minor in French, chose his areas of focus after taking Foundations of Financial Markets in London and Economics of Global Business in New York. “I realized together finance and economics provide an accurate picture of how the world operates,” he recalls. “After studying both, I better understand how financial principles drive capitalism and how economic principles govern human actions around the globe.”

Scott says the idea for the site grew naturally out of his interest in money issues combined with the recent economic downturn. “I started watching financial TV and reading personal finance books when I was 12, and the onset of the recession only underscored the importance of learning about economics early on.

“When researching schools, Stern emerged as the only undergraduate college with a prominent entertainment business program. The Business of Entertainment, Media and Technology specialization (BEMT) and the Stern & Tisch Entertainment Business Association (STEBA) were just two of the reasons I knew this was the right place for me. Plus Stern’s New York City location enables me to continue pursuing acting opportunities.”

Alyssa met NYU Steinhardt student Natan Edelsburg, who conceived of Natan.tv, while both were studying abroad at NYU in Prague last spring and they launched the web site soon after. “NTV originated as a ‘Mind of Millennials’ blog network,” she explains. “To sustain it financially, we took on consulting projects and discovered a niche offering millennial perspectives on social media marketing. That side of the company quickly took off and is where I’ve been able to use my business background to add the most value to our team.”

After 10 years of on-the-job training, Executive MBA student Suzanne Elliott worked her way to up to executive vice president of development and marketing at Dress for Success Worldwide, a nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged women around the world attain economic independence. “But I still wanted to take my career to the next level,” said Suzanne. “In the long term, I want to apply my experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, as well as my education, to affect change in the areas of poverty reduction and workforce development.
