Standardized Tests

Applicants to the Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) Program must submit an official score from one of the following standardized tests as part of their application: Note:
  • MBA degree holders may submit an application without a GMAT or GRE score, provided they submit a final, official transcript from their MBA studies, showing the MBA degree conferral. The MBA degree must be conferred prior to submitting the APC application if a standardized test score is not being submitted.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English and who hold a degree from a university in a non-English speaking country must submit an official IELTS or TOEFL score.

The GMAT or GRE must be taken within five years of the deadline by which you are applying:

You are responsible for including your score on the online application and ensuring that Pearson VUE or Educational Testing Service is able to release and send your official score report to NYU Stern. While an official test score is required for a final decision, the Admissions Committee can begin the review of your application with an unofficial test score. NYU Stern's GMAT reporting code for the Advanced Professional Certificate program is 5TF-HW-37. NYU Stern's GRE reporting code for the Advanced Professional Certificate program is 5152.

NYU Stern has no minimum GMAT or GRE score. For applicants who take the test more than once, the Admissions Committee will consider only the test with the highest total score.

If you plan to retake the GMAT or GRE after applying, please inform the Admissions Committee of the date you intend to take the test in the optional essay. The Admissions Committee will proceed with the evaluation of your application using your submitted score, and may issue a decision prior to receiving additional test scores.

All applicants whose native language is not English and who have not received a university degree in an English-speaking country must take the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

For applicants from countries where English is not the primary spoken language, but is the primary language used in education, such as India and Singapore, the IELTS/TOEFL is not required. If you are in the process of completing a degree in English prior to enrollment in the MBA program, and it will be conferred prior to enrollment, you may have your IELTS or TOEFL waived. However, please note this in the optional essay.

The IELTS or TOEFL must be taken within two years of the deadline by which you are applying:
