Center for Business Analytics

Triggered by the explosive growth of the shared technology infrastructure, organizations today have access to enormous data sets. However, even though most companies have massive amounts of data at their disposal, they often do not utilize it in a meaningful way. Sophisticated business analytics tools are needed to harness the tremendous potential of these data to improve day-to-day decision making. In this day and age, applications of business analytics can extend to several managerial functions in an organization such as web analytics, customer analytics, social media analytics, lifestyle analytics, healthcare analytics, HR analytics, and several others. Through business analytics, historical data can be mined to discover causal and predictive relationships among important elements in an organization’s environment, make more formal empirical inferences regarding the structure of these relationships, and generate actionable managerial insights.

The Center for Business Analytics (CBA) is an inter-disciplinary research initiative within NYU Stern. CBA affiliated researchers will work at the cutting edge of data analytics using statistical, machine learning, econometric, optimization, and experimental methodologies in order to make causal inferences or robust predictions from massive datasets. Of particular interest to CBA are meaningful industry partnerships that will help shape our research agenda through knowledge and data sharing.
