The U.K. voted for Brexit. Donald Trump is threatening not just to rip up NAFTA but to pull the U.S. out of the World Trade Organization. And support for the E.U. is down across its key members, including Germany, which is currently convulsing in a witches’ brew of disaffection, xenophobia and protectionism.

All in all, the West seems to be in a snit marked by growing anti-globalist sentiment. And policymakers are worried. IMF chief Christine Lagarde has even warned about repeating the “waves of protectionism” that “preceded many wars.”
