Maintaining a tradition that began in 2006, the Stern Private Equity Club (SPEC) held its Seventh Annual Stern Private Equity Conference at NYU’s Kimmel Center on March 2. The sold-out conference had a record turnout of more than 350 attendees, bringing together over 200 professionals in private equity, as well as over 150 students to hear industry panels led by thought leaders.

On February 28, NYU Stern’s Luxury & Retail student club co-hosted a special guest lecture with IBM, “Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again,” featuring Professor Herb Kleinberger and Chris Hendren of IBM Global Solutions. The lecture corresponded with the global launch of the paper, "Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again" (a joint project between NYU Stern and IBM).

The 2012 MBA Media & Entertainment Conference, co-hosted by NYU Stern’s Media, Entertainment and Sports Association (MESA), is a premiere event for MBA students focusing in the media, entertainment and technology industries. The conference will feature Netflix Co-Founder and CEO Reed Hastings as one of the keynote speakers, along with a variety of panel discussions and networking opportunities.

The Inaugural Stern Africa Forum (SAF), co-hosted by student organization Stern in Africa (SIA) and NYU Africa House, will bring together top African business thinkers, innovators and executives to discuss the trends driving economic development and growth on the African continent. Themed "Redefining Africa: Innovative Business and Frontier investments in Emerging Africa," SAF will focus on the innovative business practices and ventures fueling the progress and potential of Africa’s emerging economies.

Stern’s Government and Business Association MBA Club Hosts a Dialogue on Occupy Wall Street
December 5, 2011Some 200 students gathered on November 30, 2011, for a panel discussion on the Occupy Wall Street movement, hosted by the Stern Government and Business Association (GBA) MBA club. The panel, moderated by Vice Dean for Graduate Education Adam Brandenburger, featured Justin Wedes, New York City general assembly organizer for Occupy Wall Street; David Paterson, former governor of New York; Andrew Serwer, managing editor of Fortune magazine; and Roy Smith, Kenneth G. Langone professor of entrepreneurship and finance. The panelists reflected on the sentiment behind the Occupy Wall Street movement and assessed the movement’s successes and challenges. A very lively floor discussion followed. -
