Chade-Meng Tan Discusses Mindfulness with the Stern Community at Leadership Development Speaker Series

Chade-­Meng Tan (Meng), a Google pioneer, award­-winning engineer, international bestselling author and philanthropist spoke to the NYU Stern community as part of the School’s Leadership Development Speaker Series. He currently serves as co-­chair of One Billion Acts of Peace and chairman of the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute.

Meng illustrated the relevance of mindfulness in business and leadership, and the growing popularity of mindfulness among companies, business leaders and individuals.
He also shared insights from his own mindfulness journey, career path and his two books, Search Inside Yourself and Joy On Demand. "Access to joy is a skill," Meng explained, that can be mastered. "We can train our brains to be more emotionally intelligent."  In closing, Meng summarized three principles of his mindfulness practice:
  1. Practice attention training
  2. Develop self knowledge and self mastery
  3. Create useful mental habits
