FAQ

Is the MS in Business Analytics a STEM designated degree program?
MSBA is a STEM-designated degree program. This designation can be beneficial for students as there is a growing demand for STEM skill sets in today's market. However, please note that due to the part-time, modular nature of the program, students are not eligible for OPT. For a comprehensive list of NYU STEM programs, please click here.

Do I need a specific visa to attend the program?
NYU sponsors international students for F-1 student status, and F-1 status is the most common type of status used to study in the United States. F-1 status is for Stern academic students who are pursuing a degree or certificate and will only last for the duration of the in-class module or session. Please note that the visa will not be valid for the entire year. Students will need to reapply for their visa for each US-based module. As such, students would not be eligible for OPT.

The NYU Office of Global Services (OGS), in partnership with the Academic Affairs and Student Services team, can help determine if students will need an F-1 visa for the program and if so, will help them through the I-20 process for each US-based module. Please note that international students are responsible for the costs incurred for the SEVIS/visa fee applications throughout their tenure as students.

How do international students typically fund the program?
Most MSBA international students finance the program through a combination of company sponsorship, private loans, and personal finances. Private loans are non-federal loans that are offered through lenders such as banks or credit unions. Most private lenders require non-U.S. citizens and permanent residents to apply with a U.S. based co-signer.

Some students are also successful in receiving financial support from their employers. For students who are planning on having these discussions, we are happy to provide a template to help them frame the program and its benefits.

Can I apply for a scholarship?

Is there a full-time option for this degree?
The Master of Science in Business Analytics program is only offered as a one year long, part-time program divided into six on-site class sessions (modules) at NYU Stern in New York and rotating global locations. This part-time format reduces the absence from the office to approximately 5 weeks over the course of the year. Students also complete pre-module and post-module assignments and deliverables done via distance learning outside of the in-class period. This averages 25 hours per week of work. There is no full-time option available for this program. If you are interested in full-time programs at Stern, please see our MBA and Master’s program websites.

Is there an online version of this program?
We do not offer an online-only option for this program. To learn more about our schedule and format, visit our website here. To view NYU Stern’s online programs, please see here.

Can I start the program in the Fall semester?
This program has only one intake per year in May. Therefore, we do not run on a spring/fall schedule. Please see our Admissions page for more information.

Do I need to take the GMAT or the GRE?
GMAT and GRE scores are not required to apply to the MS in Business Analytics program. However, this is ultimately at the discretion of the Admissions Committee should they feel it is needed in order to make a fully-informed admissions decision.

Are TOEFL scores mandatory? Can I submit IELTS scores instead?
Generally the TOEFL score is not required for individuals who have received a degree from a university where the instruction was in English or use English in the workplace. However, the Admissions Committee reserves the right to request a TOEFL score if they feel they need one in order to make a fully informed admissions decision.

We do not accept IELTS or Duolingo scores.

Do the transcripts that I submit need to be official?
Yes. While we can accept unofficial transcripts as part of your application for initial assessment purposes, we must receive your official transcripts directly from all institutions from which you hold a completed degree in order to provide you with an admissions decision.

Do I need to officially translate my transcripts into English?
We require transcripts to be officially translated. This can be done through an official translator, but the documents must be notarized.

Do you offer fellowships or graduate assistantships?
We do not have any fellowship or graduate assistant opportunities.

Do you have a job placement program or internship program?
We do not have a job placement program nor an internship program. However, students have full access to the Career Center for Working Professionals, our expansive alumni network, and their fellow cohort members.
