The 2011 Global Systemic Risk Conference is jointly organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Society for Financial Econometrics and the Volatility Institute at NYU Stern.

NYU Stern and L2 held its third annual Innovation Forum where industry and academic speakers presented to a sold-out audience on topics including digital marketing, urban development and new ideas for brands to innovate.

The Stern Investment Management and Research Conference (SIMR) Conference will feature keynote speakers Daniel K. Kingsbury, head of the US division and CEO and president of Pioneer Investment Management Inc., and Whitney Tilson, founder and managing partner of T2 Partners LLC and Tilson Mutual Funds, as well as panel discussions focused on investment strategies and “best ideas.”

In collaboration with NYU Stern and Columbia Business School, NOVA (Italian MBA Association) presents its 12th annual conference, organized in New York City on November, 11th-13th, 2011.

Hosted by NYU Stern, a two-day meeting entitled, "Single Neuron Studies of the Human Brain," will explore the state of the field of human electrophysiology. The event will convene experts working in the field to talk about progress, challenges, technologies, ethical implications, applications, hardware, software, scientific questions and clinical considerations.

The 26th Annual AHBBS Conference, themed "Shifting Landscapes," will feature a variety of speakers and panelists that will share their insights and experiences on the keys to succeeding in a borderless world. NYU alumnus Larry Silverstein (ARTS '52), who serves as an honorary vice chair of NYU’s Board of Trustees, sat down with a group of MBA students during a Leadership Luncheon Series. He spoke candidly about his 55-year career in the real estate industry, including the recent progress and challenges facing the reconstruction of the World Trade Center site.

In conjunction with The Economist’s special report on the “Future of Jobs” (September 2011), Nobel Laureate Professor Michael Spence and Matthew Bishop, US business editor and New York bureau chief at The Economist, discussed recent trends in the job market in NYU Stern's Paulson Auditorium.

The theme of the 2011 GFA conference is "Navigating Uncertain Waters." The conference will include a keynote address by Eric Varvel, Chief Executive Officer, Investment Bank of Credit Suisse; panel discussions; and a cocktail reception.

On September 26, 2011 the NYU Stern Center for Global Economy and Business, led by Professor Kermit Schoenholtz, hosted Dr. Duvvuri Subbarao, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

NYU Stern Salomon Center Hosted Sir John Vickers who discussed the proposed financial regulation set forth by the UK's Independent Commission on Banking. Following his speech, he joined a panel discussion led by Gillian Tett, US managing editor of the Financial Times; James Staley, CEO of JP Morgan's investment bank; and Ingo Walter, Seymour Milstein Professor of Finance, Corporate Governance and Ethics, and Vice Dean of Faculty.

WIN is a Social Networks Summit intended to foster collaboration and to build community. The increasing availability of massive networked data is revolutionizing the scientific study of a variety of phenomena in fields as diverse as Computer Science, Economics, Physics and Sociology. WIN brings together leading researchers studying ‘information in networks’ – its distribution, its diffusion, its value, and its influence on social and economic outcomes – in order to lay the foundation for ongoing relationships and to build a lasting multidisciplinary research community.

Economists and policy makers from the G20 countries gathered at NYU for a two-day, deep-dive on employment this September. Hosted by NYU Stern and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), and with support from the World Bank, the workshop entitled, “Employment – Global and Country Perspectives,” explored a number of trends and issues.

Researchers studying information in networks gathered at NYU Stern for the third annual Workshop on Information Networks (WIN) Summit, organized by Sinan Aral, assistant professor of information, operations and management sciences; Arun Sundararjan, associate professor of information, operations and management sciences; and Foster Provost, professor of information, operations and management sciences.

NYU Stern alumnus Mike Indursky (MBA ’90), president of Bliss World Holdings Inc., recently sat down with a group of MBA students through the School’s Leadership Luncheon Series. Indursky shared what he called, “Lessons Learned through a Career of Self-Discovery and Self-Actualization.”

More than 450 aspiring entrepreneurs from NYU’s student, alumni and faculty communities gathered in Paulson Auditorium to hear about this year’s Entrepreneurs Challenge. During the official Kick-Off, attendees received information about NYU Stern’s 13th Annual New Venture Competition and 9th Annual Social Venture Competition – both sponsored by Stern’s Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation – and NYU’s 2nd Annual Technology Venture Competition, hosted by Stern’s Berkley Center and NYU’s Innovation Venture Fund.

Students, alumni and faculty from across the University will have an opportunity to learn about Stern's 13th Annual New Venture Competition and Ninth Annual Social Venture Competition, as well as NYU's Second Annual Technology Venture Competition. Attendees will also hear from previous winners and past judges.

Having a chance to sit down to lunch with an expert in their respective field doesn’t happen every day, but it did happen this spring for students in NYU Stern’s full-time MBA program. As part of the School’s Leadership Luncheon Series, coordinated by the Leadership Development team, students had a chance to hear from NYC real estate investor and developer Larry Silverstein, president and CEO of Silverstein Properties; Stephen Sadove, chairman and CEO of Saks Inc.; and Captain Jamie Peace, veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
