Only at Stern: Vice Dean for Faculty and Research and Professor Mor Armony, Advancing Operations Management Research and Shaping Stern’s Faculty Culture

Mor Armony is Vice Dean for Faculty and Research, the NYU Stern Harvey Golub Professor of Business Leadership, and Professor of Technology, Operations and Statistics. She teaches courses in operations management and stochastic service systems.

Her research has been covered in top publications like the Wall Street Journal and focuses on:

  • patient flow in healthcare
  • optimization of customer experience in contact centers
  • and stochastic modeling of various operations

It has been published in leading journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, and Production and Operations Management (POMS), as well as the Mathematics of Operations Research journal, serendipitously acronymed as MOR. And in 2021, she was named Department Editor of the Manufacturing and Services Operations Management (MSOM) Journal. In 2024, she received the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Distinguished Fellows Award, recognizing outstanding research and scholarship in operations management. In May 2026, she will give the prestigious plenary Naor lecture at the ORSIS 2026 conference in Israel

As Vice Dean for Faculty and Research, she has guided the culture and global reputation of Stern’s faculty. She fosters a “can-do” faculty environment: entrepreneurial, collaborative, resilient, and deeply supportive of colleagues. She celebrates both excellence and community, mentoring faculty, welcoming new hires, and sharing personal milestones.

Under Vice Dean Armony’s leadership, Stern’s faculty continue to drive award-winning research, engage in global conversations on relevant business research and news, and attract the next generation of scholars

In fact, Stern is ranked #4 among the top 1,000 b-schools globally for new downloads of research within the last 12 months by SSRN (as of November 1, 2025). And Stern ranked #9 in the 2025 Financial Times Business Education Research Insights special report assessing the impact of faculty research, using rigor, resonance, and relevance in their methodology.

In an interview with the Stern Business alumni magazine, Vice Dean Armony talked about her hopes for Stern faculty in the future.

“I imagine that the virtuous circle will continue and our faculty will produce award-winning research, contribute to global conversations, and of course, share their new baby photos at faculty dinners,” she said.

Prior to being named Vice Dean, Professor Armony also served as interim Chair of the Information, Operations, and Management Sciences Department, which later became the Department of Technology, Operations, and Statistics.

Before joining Stern, she consulted for Lucent Technologies and AT&T and developed predictive financial models at Eventus, Israel.
