The NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business Annual Practice Forum is a highly anticipated industry event convening investor and corporate sustainability leaders for an exchange of the latest research and insights on sustainability in practice. Through a curated program of new research findings, panel discussions on the implementation of strategies, frank conversations with executives on how to tackle the challenges, and interactive sessions to apply learnings, participants walk away with practical tools and frameworks to unlock financial value through embedded sustainability.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance hosted its 2nd Annual Symposium on Innovation and Sustainable Real Estate, in partnership with the NYU Office of Sustainability and the NYU Stern Climate Finance Initiative.

On March 1, 2024, the Fubon Center for Technology, Business and Innovation hosted the 2024 NYU Stern Fintech Conference titled "Living Large: The Latest on AI in Finance."

On Tuesday, December 12, NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business will host Value Creation Through Responsible Investing, a Private Equity Sustainability Practicum.

On Friday, November 17, NYU Stern's Volatility & Risk Institute co-hosted the Catastrophic Cyber Risk and a Potential Federal Insurance Response Conference, along with the US Department of the Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office. Clinical Professor Richard Berner, co-director of the Institute, and Steven Seitz, director, Federal Insurance Office, US Department of the Treasury, delivered opening remarks.

The Volatility & Risk Institute and Center for Global Economy and Business will host Maya MacGuineas for a talk and Q&A on "America's Fiscal Challenges." The event will be held via zoom webinar on Wednesday, November 15th from 4:45pm to 5:45pm.

On Friday, April 28, NYU Stern's Volatility & Risk Institute presented its Fourth Annual Conference, titled, “Managing Compound Risks in a Polycrisis World.” Professor Robert Engle and Professor Richard Berner, Co-Directors of the Institute, hosted the event. 

On Tuesday, April 25, the NYU Department of Accounting and The Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting Research hosted Sherron Watkins, Enron whistleblower, for a fireside chat on the "Leadership Lessons from the Enron Scandal and the Importance of Whistleblowing" followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience. The discussion was moderated by Professor Amal Shehata.

This year's theme is AI and fintech, including both the light and dark sides of automation. For example, we will have a speaker on Deep Fakes, an academic panel on post-FTX crypto governance, "meme-ifcation" of investing, etc.

Shannon K. O'Neil joins NYU Stern's Steven Altman for a virtual "fireside chat" about her new book, The Globalization Myth: Why Regions Matter (Yale University Press, October 2022), which chronicles the rise of three main global manufacturing and supply chain hubs and what they mean for U.S. economic competitiveness.

On Monday, March 27, NYU Stern's Center for Global Economy and Business, Volatility and Risk Institute, and Center for Sustainable Business co-hosted a Public Talk and Q&A with Laurence Boone, French Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Rama Akkiraju is the Vice President for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for IT at Nvidia. She is a former IBM Fellow who worked on the Watson artificial intelligence project, and has been honored as a "Top 20 Women" in AI by Forbes, and "A-Team for AI" by Fortune Magazine. Rama and Professor Melissa Schilling will discuss the ways in which the adoption and performance of artificial intelligence are accelerating right now, and the unique role that Nvidia is positioned to play.

Modern AI language systems are astounding, as we are reminded almost every day. But they also are criticized for their (lack of) accuracy, their tendency to just make things up, their banal song lyrics, and their lack of true intelligence (recall last fall’s fireside chat with Prof. Gary Marcus). Where are we, really, when it comes to AI “large language models” helping us to actually do real work?
