Not everyone who has earned an NYU Stern degree in the past 10 years may remember the Trainwreck Fries or the Dirty Shirley at Amity Hall on West 3rd Street near the School, but the popular sports bar and restaurant drew a loud and happy crowd this spring when Sternies showed up for Stern 10’s 2024 “March Madness Takeover” and viewing party. There was no paucity of NYC sports bars tuned to first-round playoffs, but only at this one could Stern grads find such instant camaraderie.

Stern 10 is a social and professional hub for Stern alumni in their first decade out of school. The group’s calendar of events, which lean heavily to the social, has been a magnet for recent graduates across all of Stern’s schools and programs—not least because its directors leverage both nostalgic standbys and the latest “see-and-be-seen” NYC venues. Stern 10’s 2023 holiday party at Manhatta, a restaurant perched 60 stories above downtown, drew 450 attendees. The next month, several dozen young alums from around the country hit the slopes at Vail at a Meet-and-Ski with Vail Resorts chief financial officer Angela Korch (MBA ’05). Many of the group’s events sell out, with newly minted BS grads mixing with full- and part-time MBAs, EMBAs, MS, and TRIUM grads.

“By including young alums from all programs and degrees, Stern 10 reinforces the power of the Stern community at large and our holistic understanding of what makes the Stern experience so unique,” explained Marissa Chen (MBA ’26), senior associate director, Alumni Relations. “Stern 10 is a community to help our more recent graduates navigate transitions, whether in their careers or in life. We know they appreciate it: 65% of our event attendees are repeaters.”

Natasha Lim (BS ’19), co-vice chair of the Stern 10 Committee, said, “Often recent graduates may feel somewhat adrift as they adjust to new jobs and colleagues. The Stern 10 community offers a strong sense of affinity as well as an opportunity to make or strengthen connections with other Sternies, whether it’s while cheering on the Brooklyn Cyclones or chatting about industry topics over cocktails at Jac’s on Bond.”

Members of the Alumni Council’s Stern 10 Committee work with Chen to curate the events. A recent professional session featured Conor Grennan (MBA ’10), Dean of MBA and Graduate Students at NYU Stern, for networking, fresh LinkedIn portrait photography, and an in-person and Web-streamed talk on a practical framework for using generative AI and ChatGPT. An earlier networking and wine event featured Stern Executive Board Member Susan Jurevics (MBA ’96), chief brand and international officer at Audible.

Stern 10 publishes a biweekly newsletter, listing future events and reviewing past ones, that goes out to 25,000 alumni globally. “We want to show our new graduates that the Stern connection doesn’t end when you get your degree, that the community is always here for you,” said Beau Gresham (MBA ’20), co-vice chair.
