Our Mission

The Center's mission is to challenge and empower companies and future business leaders to make practical progress on human rights.

We believe that respect for human rights is the most enduring way to ensure justice, opportunity and dignity for people everywhere. We also believe that companies have the capacity to be a transformative force for good.

Today, global companies are central players in either improving or eroding respect for human rights, especially when they operate in states with weak institutions and rule of law. We see business and human rights as one of the most important - and least well understood - challenges of the next generation.

"At NYU Stern, we develop people and ideas that transform the challenges of the 21st century into opportunities to create value for business and society. Our Center for Business and Human Rights is the embodiment of that mission [and] demonstrate that profit and principle can co-exist."

-Dean Peter Henry
