New MBA Student Club: The Stern Hedge Fund Association

The Stern Hedge Fund Association (SHFA) joins the ranks of NYU Stern’s some 40 MBA student clubs this fall.

“As the hedge fund industry continues to grow and seek talent with graduate degrees, the SHFA will serve as a gateway for current MBA students to learn about the hedge fund industry,” explains Agata Rzamek, CAIA, club co-president. “The club will also facilitate networking between current students and alumni and other professionals in the field.”

“Exposing Stern students to various career paths within the hedge fund industry, including research, trading, marketing, investor relations, capital development, prime brokerage, administration, accounting, operations, technology, asset allocation and institutional investing, is a top priority for SHFA,” stresses Jenna Bussman, CAIA, who serves alongside Rzamek as SHFA co-president.

On July 22, SHFA kicked off their inaugural year with an alumni mixer at the Public House in NYC. “More than 80 alumni attended the event, all of whom expressed enthusiasm about this new club and were excited to get involved,” says Bussman.

The club’s fall 2010 roster of events will include a speaker series on topics ranging from careers in the hedge fund industry to value investing and investor relations in the field; an event with a CAIA representative to talk to students who are planning to take the exam; panel discussions during the Graduate Finance Association and Stern Private Equity Club annual conferences; as well as networking receptions with alumni and industry professionals.
