About Dennis H. Jacobsen
Dennis H. Jacobsen joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations in June 2026.
Jacobsen studies the dynamics of social networks in the workplace — how relationships form, evolve, and dissolve, and why the networks people build in good faith so often end up holding them, and their organizations, back. A central theme in his work is how ordinary relational behaviors place people in network structures that sustain persistent strain, stalled creative growth, and entrenched competitive hierarchies. He also studies how shifts in the way people access information and solve problems at work, particularly through generative AI, reshape who they turn to and the informal networks that result.
His review in Academy of Management Annals synthesizes what is known about how and why workplace networks change over time. His empirical work combines multi-year field studies within partner organizations with large-scale archival data and computational methods, including novel text-based approaches to measuring relationships at scale.
Before joining NYU Stern, Jacobsen completed his PhD in Organizational Behavior at Yale School of Management. He received his MSc and BSc in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. Alongside his studies, he worked at Jabra, Ramboll Management Consulting, and DSB, Denmark’s principal railway operator.
