Purnoor Tak joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Assistant Professor of Finance in 2026. 

Tak conducts research in household finance, financial intermediation, and financial history. Her work examines how households make financial decisions and engage with financial products and intermediaries, and how the design of intermediation shapes participation, risk-taking, and real economic outcomes. She uses administrative microdata and historical datasets to study when and why households adopt financial products and how regulation and institutional design shape household financial behavior. 

She received her PhD in Finance from London Business School.
