About Roger Machlis

Roger Machlis joined New York University Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor in Fall 2022.

Professor Machlis teaches “Professional Responsibility and Leadership” at the undergraduate level. He previously taught “Law and Social Values” to undergraduates at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, “Responsibility in Business” to MBA students at Wharton, and “Navigating Complex Challenges in Business” to MBA students at Tel Aviv University’s Coller School of Management.

Professor Machlis currently is a Managing Director, Partner, and General Counsel of Exos Financial, a boutique financial services firm, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and provides legal and strategic advice to the CEO and partnership team. From 1997 through 2022, Professor Machlis was a senior lawyer at Credit Suisse, where he provided legal and compliance advice across major business divisions worldwide, including Investment Banking, Equities, Emerging Markets, Private Banking and Wealth Management, and Asset Management. For most of his career at Credit Suisse, Professor Machlis served as Managing Director and General Counsel of Credit Suisse’s Global Asset Management business (CSAM), where he advised the divisional CEO and leadership team on strategic business initiatives, transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, reputational risk, employment issues, and governance. He also served on various senior risk and control committees and acted as Chief Legal Officer to CS’s U.S. mutual fund boards, regularly interfacing with U.S. and international regulators.

Prior to his tenure at Credit Suisse, Professor Machlis was Senior Counsel at Citibank and began his legal career as an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He has practiced law for nearly 40 years.

He received a B.S.E. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from NYU School of Law.
