Scholarship Reception

NYU Stern is grateful for donors' support of undergraduate and graduate scholarships, which allow high-achieving students to access and take full advantage of a world-class business education at Stern. To celebrate the transformative power of scholarship, NYU Stern is proud to host the Seventh Annual Scholarship Reception and bring together our generous donors and their accomplished scholarship recipients.

The 2018 Scholarship Reception will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Dean Raghu Sundaram and Dean Geeta Menon will welcome our esteemed guests and featured donor speakers, Jerry L. Cohen, BS '53/MBA '59, and Kathleen A. Corbet, MBA '89, as well as student scholarship speakers Mahum Yunus, MBA '18, Recipient of the Kelly Kennedy Mack Scholarship, and Dana Li, BS '18, Recipient of the Phyllis and Marvin Barasch Scholarship and the Leonard Riggio Scholarship.

Meet our Honored Guest Speakers

Jerry L. Cohen, BS '53/MBA '59

Jerry L. Cohen Jerry L. Cohen is a successful 60-year veteran of the New York real estate industry who has distinguished himself in the fields of sports, theater, and philanthropy. Mr. Cohen began his career after serving in the armed forces with the U.S. Infantry in Iceland. He joined Brown, Harris, Stevens in 1957 where he remained for eight years before becoming an owner of William A. White & Sons. In 1992, Mr. Cohen went to work for Cushman Wakefield, where he joined as board member and vice chairman. During his career as a leasing broker, Mr. Cohen was personally responsible for the sales and leasing of more than 30 million square feet in the New York Metropolitan area. Then in 1998, he moved to Tishman Speyer Properties, one of the largest real estate development organizations in the United States, where he now serves as senior advisor at the firm.

Mr. Cohen has been recognized with many of the real estate industry’s most distinguished awards, including the Real Estate Board of New York’s “Most Ingenious Deal of the Year,” which he received twice. A life-time Governor of the Real Estate Board of New York and Chairman of the Realty Foundation, Mr. Cohen’s other prestigious honors include the Realty Foundation’s “Man of the Year” award and New York University’s “Madden Award for Distinguished Alumni.”

Mr. Cohen has been a partner of the New York Yankees since 1998, was previously President of the New Jersey Nets, formerly Chair Emeritus of the Circle Repertory Theater, and currently a member of the Board Council of the Manhattan Theater Club.

Mr. Cohen has been on the Stern Board of Overseers since 1998 and in 2012 became a founding member of the Center for Real Estate Finance Research. Mr. Cohen holds two degrees from NYU Stern School of Business: a B.S., which he received in 1953 and served as president of the student council, and an M.B.A. in Finance, which he received in 1959.

The Cohens have supported many areas of Stern for nearly four decades, especially through scholarships and the Jerry and Adrianne Cohen Arts and Culture Experience.

Mr. Cohen and his wife of over fifty years, Adrianne, have three married children – Steven, Gary and Caralyn as well as three grandsons and five granddaughters.

Kathleen A. Corbet, MBA '89

Kathleen A. Corbet Kathleen Corbet is an accomplished professional with over 30 years in global leadership experience in the financial services industry; and over a decade of experience in board governance for corporate, civic and philanthropic institutions.  In 2008, Ms. Corbet founded Cross Ridge Capital, LLC, a firm specializing in private investing and strategic consulting in the financial technology and data industry.  She was formerly President of Standard & Poor’s (S&P) from 2004-2007 and previously in senior leadership positions for over 20 years in asset management for AllianceBernstein LP. Ms. Corbet graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in Marketing and Computer Science and received her M.B.A. in Finance (with distinction) from New York University's Stern School of Business.  She served on the Dean’s Executive Advisory Board for NYU’s Stern School of Business from 2006 to 2009.

Mahmum Yunus, MBA '18

Mahmum Yunus Mahum is a 2nd year MBA student and a recipient of the Kelly Kennedy Mack Scholarship. She grew up in Karachi, Pakistan, and moved to California to attend Stanford University for her undergraduate studies. She began her career in healthcare consulting, and moved into a client management role at an enterprise technology startup prior to Stern. This past summer, she interned at Google. At Stern, she has been heavily involved in the student body: she serves as the co-chair of the Diversity Committee on Student Government, a Vice President on the boards of the Stern Tech Association and the Entrepreneurship and Startup Association and a Graduate Ambassador for the MBA Admissions office. 

Dana Li, BS '18

Dana Li Dana Li is a recent graduate who concentrated in Management and Marketing. During her time at Stern, she was the Vice President of the Luxury & Retail Association and a Peer Mentor. She was also an Orientation Leader and Cohort Leadership Program Guide in her final semester. In Spring 2016, Dana also spent a semester at NYU Prague where she was able to travel across 11 countries in Europe. She has also interned with various media, fashion, and consulting firms throughout her years at Stern. In May, Dana will be joining Accenture as a consulting analyst. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and completing puzzles.
