On February 9, 2012, the Strategy & Operations Club (SOC) and Management Consulting Association (MCA) co-hosted the 2nd Annual NYU Stern Strategy Forum. This year’s theme, "Emerging from the Great Recession," focused on leaders who have made significant strides by moving businesses abroad and who understand the impact this has on the future.

Some 50 academics, practitioners and policymakers gathered at NYU Stern in March for a roundtable discussion on securities litigation post-Dodd-Frank, co-hosted by Stern’s Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting and NERA Economic Consulting. Industry experts discussed recent developments in shareholder litigation and regulatory enforcement, the impact of regulatory reform and current academic research.

Tony Alvarez (MBA '76), co-founder of Alvarez & Marsal LLC, a global professional services firm with expertise in turnaround management, corporate restructuring and performance enhancement, spoke to a group of MBA students through NYU Stern’s Leadership Luncheon Series, coordinated by the School’s Leadership Development Team.

Maintaining a tradition that began in 2006, the Stern Private Equity Club (SPEC) held its Seventh Annual Stern Private Equity Conference at NYU’s Kimmel Center on March 2. The sold-out conference had a record turnout of more than 350 attendees, bringing together over 200 professionals in private equity, as well as over 150 students to hear industry panels led by thought leaders.

The NYU Stern Salomon Center for the Study of Financial Institutions recently hosted its third annual conference to explore several controversial issues related to modernizing the sector. The conference included presentations from industry leaders and academics, such as Professors Matthew Richardson, John Biggs, Viral Acharya and Eric Dinallo.

The Ninth Annual NYU Stern-Citi Conference in Leadership & Ethics addressed the theme of “Social Innovation as a Transformative Economic, Social and Political Movement.” Organized by NYU Stern’s Citi Leadership & Ethics Program and Business & Society Program Area, with generous support from the Citi Foundation, the conference featured this year’s Distinguished Citi Fellow in Leadership & Ethics, Jeffrey Hollender, co-founder of Seventh Generation.

In March, MBA students had a chance to bowl with President John Sexton and Dean Peter Henry at Bowlmor Lanes.

On February 28, NYU Stern’s Luxury & Retail student club co-hosted a special guest lecture with IBM, “Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again,” featuring Professor Herb Kleinberger and Chris Hendren of IBM Global Solutions. The lecture corresponded with the global launch of the paper, "Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again" (a joint project between NYU Stern and IBM).

Bill Drayton, founder & CEO of Ashoka, a nonprofit organization supporting the field of social entrepreneurship, spoke to MBA students about “How to Lead in an ‘Everyone is a Changemaker™’ World,” through NYU Stern’s Leadership Luncheon Series.

The 2012 MBA Media & Entertainment Conference, co-hosted by NYU Stern’s Media, Entertainment and Sports Association (MESA), is a premiere event for MBA students focusing in the media, entertainment and technology industries. The conference will feature Netflix Co-Founder and CEO Reed Hastings as one of the keynote speakers, along with a variety of panel discussions and networking opportunities.

The Penn/NYU Conference, considered the premier annual conference on law and finance, is jointly sponsored by NYU’s Pollack Center for Law & Business, Wharton’s Financial Institutions Center and the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Law and Economics. Faculty from top business and law schools will convene at the University of Pennsylvania Law School to hear colleagues present research at the intersection of law and finance. Speakers and moderators include Pollack Center Director William T. Allen and NYU Stern Professors Yakov Amihud, Stephen Brown and David Yermack.

The Inaugural Stern Africa Forum (SAF), co-hosted by student organization Stern in Africa (SIA) and NYU Africa House, will bring together top African business thinkers, innovators and executives to discuss the trends driving economic development and growth on the African continent. Themed "Redefining Africa: Innovative Business and Frontier investments in Emerging Africa," SAF  will focus on the innovative business practices and ventures fueling the progress and potential of Africa’s emerging economies.

As Arianna Huffington took the stage to address the more than 300 women in attendance at Stern Women in Business 20th Anniversary Conference on the afternoon of February 3, the excitement among the crowd was tangible. She did not disappoint, candidly sharing with the audience her personal recipes for successful leadership while frequently drawing laughter from the sell-out crowd...

As a former senior finance official in Spain and a distinguished academic economist, Dr. Jose Manuel Campa has a unique vantage point from which to view the European economy. On January 26, Dr. Campa discussed the challenges in the euro area with an audience of faculty, students and New York-based finance professionals at an event jointly sponsored by NYU Stern’s Center for Global Economy and Business and Salomon Center.

The second annual Social Innovation Symposium - a collaboration between the Social Enterprise Association (SEA) at Stern, Bridge at Wagner and LSEA at NYU Law - will be themed ”Innovative Thinking for Social Good.” The event will feature a keynote address from Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and founder of Jumo, as well as interactive sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

NYU Stern’s Salomon Center holds its annual NASDAQ DRP Research Day Conference where Stern’s finance faculty will present research. New this year will be a panel discussion on the current state of the world economy and financial system.

On Wednesday, May 16, 2012, NYU's All-University Commencement Exercises will be held at Yankee Stadium. On Thursday, May 17, 2012, NYU Stern's Undergraduate Baccalaureate Ceremony and NYU Stern's Graduate Convocation Ceremony will be held at Radio City Music Hall.

Leading academics and marketing professionals from around the world convened for NYU Stern’s Center for Measurable Marketing conference. Attendees explored the latest research on social media metrics, social media’s impact and the integration of social media into the marketing mix.

More than 400 students, faculty and administrators from across NYU gathered to hear Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, Inc., interviewed by NYU Trustee and alumna Maria Bartiromo (WSC ’89), anchor at CNBC, in NYU Stern’s Paulson Auditorium.

On December 12, NYU Stern's Salomon Center and Center on Global Economy and Business hosted an event to discuss the state of the Eurozone and the Euro.

Author and journalist Roberto Saviano and Professor Nouriel Roubini sat down with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, chair of NYU’s Department of Italian Studies, to share their perspectives on the financial crisis, criminal activities and money laundering, and how they undermine trust in the global financial system. Presented by NYU’s Department of Italian Studies, Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the Global and Joint Program Studies at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, and hosted at NYU Stern, the event drew some 400 students, faculty, press and members of the community to campus.

Some 200 students gathered on November 30, 2011, for a panel discussion on the Occupy Wall Street movement, hosted by the Stern Government and Business Association (GBA) MBA club. The panel, moderated by Vice Dean for Graduate Education Adam Brandenburger, featured Justin Wedes, New York City general assembly organizer for Occupy Wall Street; David Paterson, former governor of New York; Andrew Serwer, managing editor of Fortune magazine; and Roy Smith, Kenneth G. Langone professor of entrepreneurship and finance. The panelists reflected on the sentiment behind the Occupy Wall Street movement and assessed the movement’s successes and challenges. A very lively floor discussion followed.

Eric Varvel, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse's Global Investment Bank, headlined the conference. He shared his unique insights on the status of the world economy in his presentation entitled "Adapting to Change."

The Future of Television Conference East, hosted by Digital Media Wire in partnership with NYU Stern and the Consumer Electronics Association, convened 300 industry experts and academics to discuss the latest trends and issues in today's television and technology industries.
