When Gunjan found herself transitioning from a focus on fund research and analytics to evaluating investment risk across her company’s products, she knew it was time to formalize her role as risk manager for the firm and shore up her formal education in risk management.
 

Biography

Amal Shehata joined New York University Stern School of Business as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Accounting in September 2015, after having been an adjunct professor at the School since 2008. She teaches courses in financial accounting and auditing.

It is hard to miss Claire’s return on investment from earning her Master’s in Risk Management from NYU Stern. Within months of graduating, she had landed a new job in a different sector of the financial world. “I obtained my current position as Risk Manager at Harbour Fiduciary Services through another MSRM alumnus, and it probably would not have happened had I not completed the program,” Claire remarks. “I acquired the breadth of knowledge that enabled me to move from risk management in banking to performing risk management for a private equity real estate fund—in a role I love.”

For Dante, the NYU Stern MSRM program opened the door for him to start his own company.  Though entrepreneurial by nature, he had never risked striking out on his own. “NYU Stern taught me that it is not the jump that kills you, it’s the landing.  So, with my MSRM degree in hand as a parachute, I was finally ready,” he says. 

As Vice President of Business Intelligence and Analytics and Strategy for Goldman Sachs’s Operations Division, Cindy, a first-generation Dominican-American, is proud to be a role model for Latina women in tech. Now she can add a Master of Science in Business Analytics degree from NYU Stern to her accomplishments as well.
 
After four and half years at Goldman as a business analyst/program manager, Cindy was offered her current post just after announcing at work that she was entering Stern’s program. “One could say I benefited from the program before I completed it,” she jests.

Since earning his Master of Science in Risk Management degree from NYU Stern in 2012, Majed has been promoted twice by his organization, the National Commercial Bank in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia—one of the largest banks in the region. Currently Executive Vice President-Head of Enterprise Risk Management, Majed says the education he received in the Stern program was “very critical” to his career advancement.

“The MSBA program elevated my career to a whole new level.” That’s how Bennett, chair of the Information Governance practice group at legal giant Drinker Biddle & Reath, describes the return on his investment of time, effort, and money in NYU Stern’s Master of Science in Business Analytics program. In fact, the skills and credibility conferred by the degree—which he had literally just received—helped him create an entirely new job description for lawyers to aspire to: Chief Data Scientist. 
  

Lisa arrived at Stern with a BA in philosophy and sales operations experience with Bloomberg LP, among other firms. Thanks to her anticipated Master of Science degree in Business Analytics, she secured a new position as Director of Strategy and Business Intelligence for Fitch Ratings, where she leveraged a data-driven approach to solving complex business problems.

Mohammed was fairly new in his position as head of risk management for Saudi Arabia’s Jadwa Investment when he entered NYU Stern’s Master’s in Risk Management program. During the course of the year, his skill set and knowledge of his chosen field grew as he spent more time in his job—a perfect situation. “Thanks to Stern, I have already gained by being ahead of the curve in risk management, as I now have the ability to manage risk from a broad systemic and strategic perspective with a focus on enterprise-wide risk management,” he says.

“Understanding the discipline behind the application of analytics and how different it is from traditional analysis.” That’s how Lara sums up the value she took from her Master of Science in Business Analytics degree at Stern.  More practically, she adds, the skill set she acquired during the program is “absolutely central” to what she does as Executive Director, Hospitality Analytics, for Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International.
