Step 2: Use your SternConnect login credentials to access the Stern Alumni Google Email portal.
  • If you do not already have an email account through Stern, you will be prompted to select a personal alumni email address and will be asked to return in 24 hours to set your password and access your email account.
  • If you already have an email account through Stern, the portal will provide you with your account information, including the name associated with your account, your username, and your personal email address. You will have an opportunity to update your email account password.
Step 3: Use the credentials you created in Step 2 to log into your email account via the Stern gmail login page. We recommend saving your credentials and bookmarking this page (http://gmail.stern.nyu.edu) so you will be able to quickly and easily access your email inbox in the future.

I graduated from Stern prior to 2011 and I already have an email forwarding account through the school. How is Stern Alumni Google Email different from what I already have? Do I need to do anything to keep my account that already exists?

Traditionally, Stern has provided alumni with email forwarding for life. This means we have provided graduates with an opportunity to select a personal Stern email address and to have messages sent to this address forward to another account (such as a personal google, yahoo, or hotmail account) to be managed.

Stern Alumni Google Email is an improvement over traditional email forwarding because it provides alumni with email storage space, a Stern-specific gmail inbox, a Stern-specific Google calendar, and several other exciting features.

If you already have a Stern email forwarding account and prefer to have your Stern emails continue forwarding to another address, you do not need to do anything. Your account preferences will automatically be rolled over and your Stern alumni email messages will continue to forward to the account you previously designated. Please keep in mind, however, that the Stern Alumni Google Email features will be available in the future, should you decide to make use of them.

I am a 2011 graduate of Stern and received an email indicating that my student email account is being migrated to “alumni” status. What does this mean? What changes can I expect?

You should expect very few changes as your account is moved from student to alumni status. You will retain lifelong access to your Stern email account.

Moving forward, you will be required to update your account information (for example, your email account password) via SternConnect and the Stern Alumni Google Email portal, rather than the SternLinks page that you used as a student. Should you choose to visit SternLinks, you will notice that you no longer have access to student-specific SternLinks tools such as course evaluations, SIMON, and AIS.

I recently changed my name. How can I change the name on my Stern Alumni Google Email account?

To request any additional changes to your Stern Alumni Google Email account—for example, changes to your name or your personal email address—please contact the NYU Stern Office of Development & Alumni Relations at sconnect@stern.nyu.edu or (212) 998-0669.

Please note that we are not able to make changes to account usernames or domains. (For example, we cannot switch your account from an @alumni.stern.nyu.edu account to an @mba.stern.nyu.edu account.)
