Professor Paul Romer Discusses Charter Cities With Octavio Sanchez of Honduras

On April 20, the NYU Stern Latin American Business Association (LABA) held its third annual conference, “The Latin American Decade: Emerging Challenges and New Opportunities.” The conference closed with a fireside chat, titled, “Using Reform Zones to Change Norms and Law,” with Professor Paul Romer and Octavio Sanchez, the Chief of Staff to the President of Honduras. The two speakers discussed Professor Romer’s charter city concept and the economic and political climate in Honduras.

NYU Stern MBA Students Win 2012 Macy's MBA Challenge

First year NYU Stern MBA students Jen Hayes, Maria Medina and Stacey Anker (not pictured) were awarded First Place in the 2012 Macy's MBA Challenge. The winning team members took home a $1,000 prize and were invited to Macy's headquarters to present their case to various executives from Macy's Inc. including Martine Reardon, Chief Marketing Officer, and Terry Lundgren, Chief Executive Officer.

ProMotion Pictures Program Teams Up with SUBWAY® to Create Branded Entertainment

NYU students walked the red carpet this month at the ProMotion Pictures Gala to celebrate the University’s 2011-2012 partnership with SUBWAY® and Content & Co. Through the ProMotion Pictures Program, graduate students from the Stern and Tisch Schools joined forces to produce branded entertainment as part of the Subway Fresh Artists™ Challenge. Hosted at the Tribeca Cinemas, the event featured screenings of two winning web series, produced by NYU students.

On February 9, 2012, the Strategy & Operations Club (SOC) and Management Consulting Association (MCA) co-hosted the 2nd Annual NYU Stern Strategy Forum. This year’s theme, "Emerging from the Great Recession," focused on leaders who have made significant strides by moving businesses abroad and who understand the impact this has on the future.

Stern Private Equity Club Holds Seventh Annual Conference

Maintaining a tradition that began in 2006, the Stern Private Equity Club (SPEC) held its Seventh Annual Stern Private Equity Conference at NYU’s Kimmel Center on March 2. The sold-out conference had a record turnout of more than 350 attendees, bringing together over 200 professionals in private equity, as well as over 150 students to hear industry panels led by thought leaders.

On February 28, NYU Stern’s Luxury & Retail student club co-hosted a special guest lecture with IBM, “Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again,” featuring Professor Herb Kleinberger and Chris Hendren of IBM Global Solutions. The lecture corresponded with the global launch of the paper, "Retail 2020: Reinventing Retail Once Again" (a joint project between NYU Stern and IBM).

The Inaugural Stern Africa Forum (SAF), co-hosted by student organization Stern in Africa (SIA) and NYU Africa House, will bring together top African business thinkers, innovators and executives to discuss the trends driving economic development and growth on the African continent. Themed "Redefining Africa: Innovative Business and Frontier investments in Emerging Africa," SAF  will focus on the innovative business practices and ventures fueling the progress and potential of Africa’s emerging economies.

The second annual Social Innovation Symposium - a collaboration between the Social Enterprise Association (SEA) at Stern, Bridge at Wagner and LSEA at NYU Law - will be themed ”Innovative Thinking for Social Good.” The event will feature a keynote address from Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and founder of Jumo, as well as interactive sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

Stern’s Government and Business Association MBA Club Hosts a Dialogue on Occupy Wall Street

Some 200 students gathered on November 30, 2011, for a panel discussion on the Occupy Wall Street movement, hosted by the Stern Government and Business Association (GBA) MBA club. The panel, moderated by Vice Dean for Graduate Education Adam Brandenburger, featured Justin Wedes, New York City general assembly organizer for Occupy Wall Street; David Paterson, former governor of New York; Andrew Serwer, managing editor of Fortune magazine; and Roy Smith, Kenneth G. Langone professor of entrepreneurship and finance. The panelists reflected on the sentiment behind the Occupy Wall Street movement and assessed the movement’s successes and challenges. A very lively floor discussion followed.
