Experiential Learning | Tech MBA: Tech Solutions

With a semester’s worth of design thinking and new product ideation, Andre Koo Technology & Entrepreneurship MBA students shift into understanding how to create an innovative corporate culture and will apply these learnings to to a semester-long project with a live client. In this semester, students will work on solving a business problem with a technical solution.

Doing something new and different is difficult for all organizations. Organizations have an established set of competencies that new products or opportunities must fit with. Leaders have established mindsets that affect how they interpret opportunities. And employees have existing processes that can create resistance to change.

This course joins three perspectives on innovating within existing organizations:

• Discussing: Using cases and exercises, students will engage with the typical challenges that face organizations trying to be innovative, and develop their own roadmap to actually leading innovation within organizations.

• Listening: We welcome a series of guest speakers with hands-on knowledge of the highs and lows of leading innovation within organizations. They will offer their experiences, as well as their insights into how to be more innovative as a firm.

• Doing: The centerpiece of the course will be a semester-long engagement with a client company to design and build an early-stage new technical product (think beta version). Each client will define a challenge and provide both insight and information to fuel student efforts. And the end product will not be only a set of slides, but a working MVP (Minimum Viable Product).

This course will offer students both the opportunity to build new skills and discover new perspectives, and give students the hands-on opportunity to deploy those skills with a real project.

Tech Solutions is a required component of the Tech MBA program, and only students in the Tech MBA program are eligible to participate. Current students will receive more information throughout the program.
