Tests

NYU Stern requires one of the standardized tests listed below, unless you qualify for one of the test waivers.

  • GMAT or GMAT Focus Edition
  • GRE
  • EA (Executive Assessment)

Test Waivers

You may qualify to waive the standardized tests if you meet the conditions of one of our test waivers.

Business Major Test Waiver

  • Have earned a four-year bachelor's degree from U.S. accredited college or university in the U.S. 
  • Were a business major (per our approved list)
  • Graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher

NYU Undergraduate Test Waiver 

  • Have an undergraduate degree conferred by New York University
  • Have earned a final cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher

Part-time MBA programs are geared toward working professionals who want to earn their Master of Business Administration without putting their career on hold. Unlike full-time MBA programs, which typically require students to leave the workforce, PT MBA programs allow students to work while earning their degrees. NYU Stern's PT MBA program offers the same world-class education as the Full-time MBA.

Deciding whether or not an MBA is the right choice for you depends on your goals and personal circumstances. For those wanting to continue to progress in their career, expand their network, and have access to the latest industry knowledge for lifelong learning, Stern's PT MBA is a worthwhile investment. Our graduates see an average salary increase of 56% after completing the program.

We offer free MBA elective courses to our alumni for life, allowing them to stay up-to-date on the latest business knowledge. Stern alumni are also eligible for two tuition-free Executive Education courses per academic year and a 50% discount on any additional Executive Education courses. In addition, we also offer career services for life, including career coaching, professional development events, job postings, networking opportunities, and more.

Our program is flexible, allowing students to design their schedules and complete the program in 2-6 years depending on the program option selected. The program is 60 credits total. Students typically take 18-22 credits per year and finish the program in just over three years. Stern Academic Affairs does not permit students to switch to a full-time program once they’re enrolled in the part-time program.

While Stern doesn’t have a GPA requirement for applications, 90% of our Fall 2023 class had a GPA between 2.68 and 3.93. For the part-time MBA Fall 2023 entering class, the 80% reported GMAT range was 602 - 728 and the 80% reported GRE ranges were 153 - 165 on the Verbal section and 153 - 166 on the Quantitative section. NYU Stern also accepts the Executive Assessment (EA), and historically, most admitted part-time MBA students score between 147 and 162 on the exam. Candidates wishing to waive the GMAT, GRE, or EA requirements must meet conditions for either the Undergraduate Major test waiver or the NYU test waiver. While we don’t offer our MBA program fully online, our Online/Modular part-time MBA option is a hybrid option in which students attend live online classes and in-person classes.
