Former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board Paul Volcker spoke with a group of more than 100 students at the seventh annual Haitkin Lecture, organized by Stern’s Business & Society Program Area. Looking at the prospects for financial reform, Volcker underscored the importance of government oversight in today’s markets and stressed the critical role of internal controls in banks.

This is the second in a series of lectures sponsored by the NYU Dialogues on the Global Civil Society, which focus on the extent to which a universal moral sense, capable of underpinning a global society, is either evolving or can be created. NYU Stern Salomon Center Hosted Sir John Vickers who discussed the proposed financial regulation set forth by the UK's Independent Commission on Banking. Following his speech, he joined a panel discussion led by Gillian Tett, US managing editor of the Financial Times; James Staley, CEO of JP Morgan's investment bank; and Ingo Walter, Seymour Milstein Professor of Finance, Corporate Governance and Ethics, and Vice Dean of Faculty.

Economists and policy makers from the G20 countries gathered at NYU for a two-day, deep-dive on employment this September. Hosted by NYU Stern and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), and with support from the World Bank, the workshop entitled, “Employment – Global and Country Perspectives,” explored a number of trends and issues.

NYU Stern alumnus Mike Indursky (MBA ’90), president of Bliss World Holdings Inc., recently sat down with a group of MBA students through the School’s Leadership Luncheon Series. Indursky shared what he called, “Lessons Learned through a Career of Self-Discovery and Self-Actualization.”

Pankaj Ghemawat, Anselmo Rubiralta Professor of Global Strategy at IESE Business School in Barcelona and Visiting Research Scholar at NYU Stern, spoke to NYU Stern alumni and students about his latest book, World 3.0, which offers a new approach to globalization.
