J.P. Eggers is the Interim Dean and the Catherine & Peter Kellner Professor of Entrepreneurship at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Dean Eggers was appointed Interim Dean on July 1, 2024. A member of Stern’s faculty since July 2008, Dean Eggers is a Professor of Management and Organizations, and served as Vice Dean for MBA and Graduate Programs from 2018 to 2024. As Vice Dean, he led the introduction of several innovative programs and initiatives. He was the founding academic director of the Andre Koo Technology and Entrepreneurship MBA program, a new type of MBA that is lauded by the tech industry and has seen increased demand from students year after year. He also expanded format flexibility for working professionals in the Langone Part-time MBA Program with the Online-Modular Option. He also launched SternWorks, a hallmark of the full-time MBA experience to create student internships and bring MBA talent to small businesses, and the Executive in Residence program, both of which prioritize diversifying the career opportunities for MBA students.

Dean Eggers has broad research interests spanning technological change, decision-making under uncertainty, and new product development. Essentially, he studies the challenges faced by managers and executives in making good decisions and addressing new opportunities in emerging technologies. Specific projects examine firms that backed the wrong technology during the emergence of the flat panel display industry, how video game publishers navigate the transitions across console generations, and how and why organizations tend to expand their product portfolios based on shared customers instead of shared technologies. He has a long history of working closely with Ph.D. students, both at Stern and beyond.

While at Stern, Dean Eggers has taught across a wide range of graduate populations and program formats. His courses have ranged from the introductory MBA strategy core course and an advanced elective in strategy, to courses in decision-making using data, analytics, and experiments, to hands-on experiential learning courses in entrepreneurship and technology development.

Prior to his academic career, Dean Eggers was a strategy consultant with two firms, Kurt Salmon Associates and Viant. His clients were largely C-level executives, and his projects included product development strategy and technology strategy for firms ranging from Nordstrom to NASCAR and from Coca-Cola to YKK Zippers. He also worked as a political consultant on congressional, senatorial and gubernatorial campaigns across the United States.

Dean Eggers received his B.A. in History from Amherst College, his M.B.A. from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and his Ph.D. in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
