Fall 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to the first Stern Healthcare Initiative newsletter!
The Stern Healthcare Initiative connects students to leadership opportunities across the rapidly growing healthcare industry. With the healthcare sector now the largest U.S. employer and wages rising nearly twice as fast as other sectors (Mahoney et al., 2025), the Initiative focuses on expanding recruiting opportunities, education, and community engagement.
Our goal is to prepare Stern students to lead in every corner of the healthcare ecosystem. As a first step, we aggregated in one place all things healthcare at Stern, as well as many related efforts across NYU.
Message From Michael Dickstein, Director
We’re excited to share updates on Stern’s Healthcare Initiative. Launched in the Spring of 2025, the mission of the Initiative is to strengthen Stern’s thought leadership in the business of healthcare; to provide mentoring and learning opportunities for students seeking careers in the industry; and to deepen our connections to the vibrant healthcare community across NYU and New York City.
We invite you—students, faculty, alumni, and the broader NYU community— to participate in our upcoming events and program activities, as we train the next generation of healthcare leaders.
Please visit our Initiative website to learn more about our programming. For students, you can find details on courses in Stern’s healthcare specialization, including a detailed MBA course roadmap by healthcare interest area. For the broader community, our website also serves as a hub for event listings and for sharing recent research by Stern scholars. If you are looking to connect with people and groups across Stern working on healthcare issues, visit our people page or reach out to us via email at healthcareinitiative@stern.nyu.edu.
Program Announcements
Due to the generous support of Ashish Contractor (BS ‘97) and Amy Lung Contractor (BS ‘00) the initiative has been able to launch the following two programs:
- The Contractor Program in Healthcare is open to all students with a programmatic focus designed to increase access to industry leaders and to educate students on emerging market trends. To keep up-to-date on program activities, please join our mailing list and watch for updates on our website’s events page.
- The Contractor Fellows in Healthcare is open to advanced-year MBA students with a focus in Healthcare who demonstrate outstanding potential. Interested students will be required to apply for consideration for this fellowship. Fellows will gain one-on-one mentorship and get immersed in experiential learning, research, and more.
- The application will open in Spring 2026 for a Fall 2026 start.
Student Engagement

Joining her were speakers from across various verticals to discuss Tempus’s rapid growth, collaborative culture, and the wide range of roles available for MBA talent interested in the intersection of healthcare, data, and innovation. Speakers included Melissa Tucker, Chief Data Officer, and Chris Scotto Divetta, SVP & GM of AI apps. A career journey panel included Dahlia Coopersmith (MBA 2025), Katie Kerbis, and Tim Taxter.
