NYU Stern's Urbanization Project will host industry professionals and faculty that will participate in the Brown Bag Discussion series.

The NASDAQ/OMX Derivatives Research Project Research Day, hosted by the NYU Stern Salomon Center, is an opportunity to learn about some of the most interesting projects that are currently under way among our active Finance research faculty. Along with presentations of research work in progress, this event will feature a panel discussion on the current state of the world economy and financial system.

“What does it take to win?” asked retired US Army General Stanley McChrystal, former commander of the International Security Assistance Force and US Forces in Afghanistan, on Friday evening in NYU Stern’s Paulson Auditorium. Hosted by the TRIUM Global Executive MBA Program, an alliance among NYU Stern, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and HEC School of Management in Paris, General McChrystal spoke candidly about lessons in leadership to more than 200 students and alumni.

On January 11, 2013, NYU Stern hosts its inaugural India Business Forum in Mumbai, India. Stern's world-class faculty, and India's top corporate leaders and policymakers will take part in this full-day event, “India in the 21st Century: From Potential to Progress.”

Distinguished Citi Fellow in Leadership & Ethics Mindy S. Lubber, president and founding board member of Ceres, a nonprofit organization that advocates for sustainable business and investment practices, spoke candidly with MBA and undergraduate students this fall.

“We are currently living through the most dramatic shift in global economic history,” argued The Right Honorable Gordon Brown, former prime minister of the United Kingdom and NYU’s first Distinguished Global Leader-in-Residence. As part of NYU Stern’s Block Lunch event series, hosted by Dean Peter Henry, Brown spoke to more than 100 MBA students this week.

The first NYU Start Up Job Expo, hosted by NYU Stern's Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Office of Career Development, Career Center for Working Professionals and Entrepreneurs Exchange Club, as well as the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development, the Wasserman Center for Career Development at NYU-Poly, the NYU Entrepreneurs Network and NY Tech Meetup, to be held on Thursday November 29. This event will provide students with a chance to connect with professionals in the entrepreneurial community, such as, ffVentures, Lore, Lot18, Quirky, TargetSpot, Venmo and Yipit.

On November 28, 2012, a team of five NYU Stern MBA students won the first place $2,000 prize in the second annual Cable Interacts Interactive Launch Competition. Kibi Anderson, Ben Colman, Joshua Cohen, Austin Clements and Taj Corinaldi, advised by Professor Alvin Lieberman, competed against teams from Columbia Business School, MIT Sloan, Georgetown McDonough School of Business, Boston University School of Management and Howard University School of Business.

Some 50 academics, practitioners and policymakers gathered at NYU Stern in November for a roundtable discussion on the re-emergence of consulting practices at the major audit firms. Industry experts discussed why the firms’ consulting revenues are increasing and whether the practice poses a conflict of interest.

NYU Stern's Entertainment, Media, and Technology Association, Office of Career Development, and the EMT Alumni Committee are hosting a summit that will give the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and current events that are shaping the Entertainment, Media and Technology industries. Invitees will gain perspective from alumni and executives working at Microsoft, NBC Universal, Bloomberg, The Economist, Cablevision, IBM, Walt Disney, Yahoo!, and many other companies.

The annual SPHA Healthcare Summit will provide an opportunity for students and professionals to learn about careers in the life sciences and healthcare industry including positions with healthcare providers, pharmaceuticals, investment banks and consulting firms. The event will touch on a variety of current topics including discussions of the changing state of the US healthcare industry. There will also be over an hour of networking with industry professionals, recruiters and professors.

The largest academic conference of its kind, in terms of research paper submissions, NYU Stern’s Ninth Annual Conference on Social Entrepreneurship, organized by the School’s Business & Society Program Area and the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, convened scholars from around the world, as well as practitioners and students, to explore topics in social enterprise, innovation, sustainability and impact.

On Wednesday, November 7, NYU Stern and L2 held the fourth annual Innovation Forum in New York City. Speakers from industry and academia presented to a sold-out audience on topics such as social contagion, stock picking and the Digital IQ and America’s political division.

On Friday, October 26, NYU Stern's Luxury and Retail club will host J. Crew CEO Millard (Mickey) Drexler, the man who transformed the world of retail at the helm of some of the most iconic American fashion brands.

Jes Staley, CEO of J.P. Morgan Investment Bank, and other industry leaders will discuss topics including challenges facing the industry, the relationship between policy and the capital markets, and how to build a career in financial services.

Sharon L. Allen, former chairman of the board of Deloitte LLP (2003-2011) sat down with Thomas Pugel, vice dean for MBA and executive programs and professor of economics and global business, and more than 100 MBA students in NYU Stern’s Leadership Luncheon Series. Coordinated by the School’s Leadership Development Team, the event series gives students an opportunity to hear from senior executives in industry on the challenges and lessons learned of being a leader.

NYU Stern alumni and students filled Paulson Auditorium on October 15 to hear Professor William Silber discuss his newly published biography of Paul Volcker, “Volcker: The Triumph of Persistence.”

On October 15, 2012, NYU Stern's Development and Alumni Relations Office and the Center for Global Economy and Business will host a discussion of Professor William Silber's book, "VOLCKER: The Triumph of Persistence.

The 27th Annual AHBBS Conference, hosted by the NYU Stern Association of Hispanic & Black Business Students (AHBBS) is themed, “Leadership Through Innovation: Creating a Career of Opportunity and Choice.”

A conference jointly sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the NYU Stern Salomon Center.  This conference aims to promote a better understanding of the role of private equity in the US economy, including real economic effects of private equity transactions and economic welfare implications.

On Thursday, October 11, 2012, NYU Stern co-hosted, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, a panel discussion on Europe’s Economic and Financial Future with Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski, Member of the European Commission, Financial Programming and Budget.
