Currently you need an NYU netID to register as a participant at the Center for Behavioral Research and to participate in studies. However, if you are an NYU alumnus/ae, you may still be able to participate in studies. If you no longer live in NY, there are online studies where you can participate from anywhere you have Internet access.

To register as a participant at the Center for Behavioral Research, you need to create an account at Sona Systems. You will need a valid NYU netID and email address to register.

Most studies run at the Center for Behavioral Research consist of short questionnaires and surveys. A majority of research focuses on decision-making, consumer behavior, or opinions on social issues. Many participants find the studies interesting and fun. None of our studies involve physical exertion or medical procedures.

You will receive an email shortly linking you to a web-based survey.

No. Online studies can be completed on any computer connected to the internet.

If you signed up for an in-person (i.e., lab) study, you will receive an email confirming the time and location of your study.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the study.

Please bring a form of ID (e.g., student ID card or driver's license) for identification purposes. All other materials will be provided for you.

Log into your account at Sona Systems and follow the cancellation instructions.

Yes, studies pay up to $20 per hour! You may be paid in cash, gift cards, or by being entered in a drawing for one or more prizes. Form and amount of payment varies by study and will be described in the study announcement posted on Sona Systems.

Payments for online studies will either be emailed to you (e.g., Amazon.com gift certificates or PayPal credit) or credited to your NYU ID Campus Cash account (if you are affiliated with NYU). These types of payments are processed within 7 business days after you complete the study.

If you were entered in a drawing for one or more prizes as compensation for participating in the study, you will be contacted at the email address you provided if you won a prize.

Payment for in-person studies will be made in cash, gift cards, or by crediting your NYU ID Campus Cash account (if you are affiliated with NYU).

Payments are processed within 7 business days after you complete the study. Amazon.com and PayPal credits will be sent to the email address you provided when you participated in the study.

Yes. The Center for Behavioral Research uses state-of-art technology to protect your identity. We work with Sona System and Qualtrics to manage our participant pool and to administer surveys, respectively. Additionally, we do not associate identifying information with your survey responses. Finally, we only use your email address to contact you about research opportunities and to send you payments for completed studies. The Center for Behavioral Research will never use your email for any other purpose.
