Learn about the AI, Computing & Data Science (AICDS) Concentration 

Artificial intelligence, computing, and data science are fundamentally redefining how modern business operates. You will learn the essential technical background necessary to make decisions about computer-based information systems. Through practical applications, ranging from data analysis and system design to new AI-focused electives, this concentration equips future leaders to manage tech-driven organizations and solve real-world business challenges. To reflect the rapidly evolving nature of technology, new technology courses are continuously introduced.

AI, Computing & Data Science Concentration Requirements

To declare a concentration in AI, Computing & Data Science, you must fill out the concentration declaration form on Stern Life


Required Functional Business Core Course:

  • Information Technology in Business and Society (TECH-UB 1)


You are required to complete 12 credits of upper-level computing & data science courses that consist of:

  • For students who entered as first-years fall 2026, going forward:
    • Data Science and AI for Business (TECH-UB 57)
    • Any three (3) approved AI, Computing & Data Science Electives:
      • Any “TECH-UB” elective
      • Any "TECH-GB 6XXX" level elective
      • Financial Analytics Using Python and AI Tools (ACCT-GB 6028)
      • Econometrics (ECON-UB 251)
      • Real Estate Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning (FING-GB 6036)
      • Decision Models & Analytics (MULT-UB 7)
      • Decision Making Under Uncertainty (MULT-UB 16)
      • Tech Industry Drivers (INTA-GB 6057 previously MULT-UB 57)
      • AI Ethics in Business and Society (MULT-UB 60)
      • Foundations of Fintech (MULT-UB 80)
      • Foundations of AI Agents (OPMG-UB 30)
      • Decision Analytics for Sports (OPMG-GB 6054 previously OPMG-UB 54)
      • Regression & Multivariate Data Analysis (STAT-GB 6017 previously STAT-UB 17)
      • Forecast Time Series (STAT-GB 6018 previously STAT-UB 18)

Additional Notes and Resources

A Stern elective course may satisfy only one concentration requirement. For example, Decision Models & Analytics can count as a AICDS concentration elective OR as an operations concentration elective, but it cannot satisfy both requirements. You may import one non-Stern computer science elective to count for the AICDS concentration:

  • If you took CSCI-UA 2/3 (Introduction to Computer Programming), prior to spring 2021, you can import this class to count for the CDS concentration. However, this class cannot be counted together with TECH-UB 23 towards the requirements for the concentration, as they have substantial overlap. 
  • CSCI-UA 102 (Data Structures) can be imported as it does not overlap in content with other Stern courses.
  • Other Computer Science courses with permission of the faculty adviser.
  • CSCI-UA 4 (Introduction to Web Design and Computer Principles) and CSCI-UA 101 (Introduction to Computer Science) do not count towards the Computing & Data Science concentration.
  • DS-UA 111 (Data Science for Everyone) does not count for the concentration.
  • DS-UA 112 (Principles of Data Science) counts towards the concentration and is equivalent to TECH-UB 57 (Data Science for Business). In academic years when TECH-UB 57 is not offered, students can take DS-UA 112 and it will count towards the concentration without counting as a "non-Stern" course.*
  • Other, more advanced courses from the Center for Data Science (e.g., DS-UA 201 (Causal Inference), DS-UA 202 (Responsible Data Science), and other Advanced Topics in Data Science) can be imported and counted as the one non-Stern course permitted to import toward concentration requirements.*
  • Explore the Business Analytics track to supplement your concentration with additional coursework in tech, statistics, and math.
  • Stern juniors and seniors can request enrollment access into an MBA (-GB) course by filling out the MBA Course Request Form. See the form for more information. * Please note that the CAS Center for Data Science prioritizes their majors, and the capacity of their courses is limited.
