UP TO $100K CORIENT FAMILY OFFICE INNOVATION COMPETITION
About the Competition
NYU Stern is creating a unique student competition, sponsored by Corient Private Wealth LP (“Corient”), which encourages Stern students to develop a service or product that is intended to contribute to the efficiency, effectiveness, social and economic impact of the family office.
Specifically, the student competition aims to encourage family office innovations in private wealth management for the benefit of current and future family generations. The range of private wealth management & family office areas include:
- tailored investment management products including liquid/illiquid transition (i.e. sale of a family operating business), lifestyle assets, impact investing and multi-dimensional family risk management
- tax efficiency and estate planning
- philanthropy and charitable giving
- governance strategy and execution services
- succession planning and protocols for transfer or stewardship of assets
Submitted product or service innovations should demonstrate a process, system, software or AI agent aimed at one or more of these areas. Some examples include: developing software to help with philanthropy & donation management; a cross-border tax planning system for a family office operating in multiple geographic regions; a lifestyle asset management system to assist with artwork, vehicle or infrastructure maintenance; or a governance tool for transition of family office leadership from one generation to the next.
This competition is not designed to identify any particular fund, stock pick, charity, philanthropy or impact investing vehicle for family offices. Rather, the competition is for providing innovations for family members, staff, and systems operating inside a single or multi-family office as the office grows and evolves over generations.
The use of AI is permitted in developing the submission, but must be clearly disclosed in the submitted materials.
Competition Process
Submissions to this competition should include a one-page executive summary articulating the area of innovation together with a detailed project report such as a business plan (not exceeding 25 pages inclusive of appendices) covering in depth the innovation topic, including why it is useful, any practical limitations and any competitor offerings in the industry. Prototypes with a five-minute demonstration limit can also be submitted.
Student submissions are due by Friday February 12, 2027. Submissions should be made using this [submission form link].
Faculty will narrow down the number of student submissions into a group of no more than five finalist projects. Each of these projects will then be presented in a 15-minute pitch to a judging committee composed of NYU Stern faculty and Corient partners by March 3, 2027.
The winner(s) will be announced approximately one week later and will be asked to present at the annual NYU Stern-Corient Private Wealth Management and Family Office Conference.
Aside from being awarded a prize, winning students will also be given an opportunity to network with principals and senior staff of family office attendees and Corient partners.
Prizes
Up to three ranked prizes will be awarded if all submissions are in one area of private wealth management & family office topics, or judged equally if in three different areas. Depending on the judges’ recommendations, each of the three prizes will be at least $25,000, with the total prize pool not exceeding $100,000. The prizes will be sponsored and awarded by Corient.

FAQs
Over $80 trillion of global private wealth is estimated to be principally owned by individuals and families. Of that total, approximately $5 trillion is housed within organizational structures called “family offices”. More than 8,000 family offices have been created worldwide in the last two decades. According to a recent study, by 2030 the assets under management (AUM) of family offices may grow to be bigger than the capital managed by hedge funds or venture capital funds (Deloitte, Defining the Family Office Landscape, 2024).
Family offices seek to preserve and compound the wealth of one or more families or individuals over successive generations. In addition to investment management, the offices often provide other services to their client families, including tax and estate planning, risk management, education, family governance, succession planning that contribute to the preservation of the family’s legacy and unity. They also often provide personal services such as health care, travel services, education and the like. Thus, family offices are often complex organizations that employ or outsource work to lawyers, accountants, insurance experts, IT, property managers and investment professionals.
Submissions can be made by individual Stern students or in teams of up to four people. Teams can comprise of non-Stern students, undergraduate or graduate, from any NYU school. Every team submission must have at least one Stern student, undergraduate or graduate, to be eligible for this competition.

Please make sure that contact details (email, Net ID) for all team members are included, and that the submission follows the required competition guidelines stated above.
