Today, New York University’s Stern School of Business unveiled a landmark gift of $50 million, the largest scholarship gift in the School’s history, from the Berkley Family Foundation, established by alumnus William R. Berkley and his wife Marjorie. The gift will provide scholarships to students in Stern’s top-ranked Undergraduate College through a brand-new program to be called the Berkley Achievement Scholars Program. William R. Berkley is the current Chairman of NYU’s Board of Trustees, an NYU Stern alumnus (BS 1966), Chair Emeritus of NYU Stern’s Executive Board, and the founder of W. R. Berkley Corporation, a Fortune 500 commercial lines property and casualty insurance holding company based in Greenwich, Connecticut.

NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern School of Business are expanding their successful partnership to introduce two new one-year Master of Science programs to prepare new and recent college graduates with career ambitions in management and marketing in China and the broader Asia region. 

A sampling of media highlights for the week of July 7, 2021

Each year all students in NYU Stern's Executive MBA Washington, DC Program (EMBA DC) participate in a Speaker Series course featuring industry practitioners led by Professor Naomi Diamant, EMBA Programs academic director and Executive Programs assistant dean. 

The year-long course is designed to foster a deeper interdisciplinary understanding and broader perspective of current issues, opportunities, and challenges leaders face in today’s dynamic business environment.

During the Spring 2021 semester, the course featured Margaret-Ann Cole (TRIUM ‘04), Chief People and Transformation Officer at Porter Novelli; Jonathan Craig, Senior Executive Vice President of Investor Services and Marketing at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc; and Corie Pauling, TIAA Senior Vice President, Chief of Inclusion & Diversity, and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "I chose Stern because, at my core, I am a community-driven person. Stern’s full-time class size of approximately 350 students is, in my opinion, the sweet spot. It is small enough that everyone knows most of their classmates, but not so small that everyone is in each other’s business. Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "Looking back at my time at Stern, I am most proud of the work I completed during my Stern Solutions Project. For this class, I worked in a group of five with the nonprofit organization called The Last Prisoner Project. Our project was aimed at improving their fundraising so that the organization could increase its impact and improve their ability to advocate for criminal justice reform. What I thought would be a project that would improve my strategic thinking ended up being so much more."

Endless Frontier Labs (EFL), a program for early-stage science and technology-based startups at New York University Stern School of Business, is proud to announce the launch of the 2021-2022 application and the program’s expansion into a third track: Digital Tech. The Digital Tech track, which supplements the existing Life Sciences and Deep Tech tracks, serves startups developing novel software, artificial intelligence machine learning, or data and digital services with applications in finance, health, security, supply chains, education, retail, media, e-commerce, and related verticals.

This Spring, NYU Stern’s Leadership Accelerator debuted its first live case, an emerging educational form Stern is trailblazing to hone full-time MBA students’ leadership agility and skills. Inspired by Stern MBA and veteran Natalie Ashbridge (MBA ’21) and her military experience in dealing with crises, the Leadership Accelerator team, including Professor Nathan Pettit, the initiative’s Director; Hannah Levinson, Associate Director; and Gisselle Lankenau, Program Coordinator; wrote and designed this first for Stern with Natalie.

Combining lecture, discussion, and individual and group exercises, this short course addresses the prospects for globalization.

Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "White also discovered that several MBA programs not historically considered to be target schools for MBB have shown incredible growth from 2018 to 2020. NYU Stern increased MBB placements by 40%."
 

This course is designed for those who understand that topics such as social responsibility, environmental sustainability, ethics and morality, diversity and inclusion, and employee well-being have become integral components of leading a competitive and profitable company, and are looking for the knowledge skills necessary to embed these concepts in their organizations and themselves.

Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "'Stern has always taken an applicant-centric approach, including being on the forefront of offering students standardized test flexibility without compromising our ability to assess academic readiness for our rigorous MBA,' she says. 'In addition to the GMAT, Stern was among the first top schools to accept the GRE, and later added the Executive Assessment, LSAT, and MCAT to our test options given our dual-degree business programs in law and medicine.'”
 
"Stern, the No. 15 school (up from 16th) in the most recent P&Q ranking, enrolled an MBA class that — bucking trends — notched an average GMAT score and average undergraduate GPA that were both the highest in school history. The lowest GMAT score to gain entry to Stern was a 640, much higher than the previous year’s 600. Stern also enrolled its highest-ever number of women, at 43% of the class. Stern’s class Graduate Record Exam average was also up, as was the percentage of the class that submitted GRE scores."

Excerpt from Find MBA-- "New York University’s Stern School of Business and the School of Law have teamed up to bridge the two disciplines with a JD/MBA dual degree. It builds foundational skills for careers in law and business over a four-year period. Graduates of the program go on to work in law firms, in-house legal teams, investment and accounting firms, as well as nonprofits and government institutions. Admitted students are automatically considered for one of a range of scholarships."

This course is designed to assist executives in developing the knowledge, skills and perspective they need to understand and address these environmental and social challenges, and build companies that meet the needs of society while delivering economic returns to shareholders and stakeholders.

For the first four weeks of this program, students will learn how to program in R for effective data manipulation and visualization. They will also develop the ability to create control structures, such as loops and conditional statements, to traverse, sort, merge, and evaluate data. The following four weeks of the program will focus on techniques for data preparation — how to choose, create, and edit graphics, as well as best practices for presenting your visualizations.

In this 4-week course, students will learn how to program in R for effective data manipulation and visualization. Students will import, transform, and manipulate datasets for various analytical purposes. Students will develop the ability to create control structures, such as loops and conditional statements to traverse, sort, merge, and evaluate data. This course is designed for those who have no experience in R or programming.
