NYU Stern faculty and guests gathered in Tisch Hall to honor the School’s existing faculty chairs and to celebrate this year’s recipients of endowed chairs. Vice Dean of Faculty Ingo Walter, Seymour Milstein Professor of Ethics and Corporate Governance and Strategy, recognized Stern’s current faculty chairs – each of whom were presented a captain’s chair in their honor.

More than 200 NYU Stern students, faculty, alumni and members of the business community gathered in Paulson Auditorium to hear Professor Viral Acharya, Matthew Richardson and Lawrence White discuss their new book, Guaranteed to Fail: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Debacle of Mortgage Finance (Princeton University Press, March 2011), co-authored with Professor Stijn Van Niewerburgh.

The Right Honorable Gordon Brown, former prime minister of the United Kingdom, sat down with a select group of MBA, executive MBA and undergraduate students from NYU Stern to discuss the economic crisis, the role of policymakers in preventing future crises and the growing interconnectedness of world economies.

Nearly 200 alumni, guests, and friends of New York University gathered for the annual Ashok C. Sani Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence Lecture featuring Bill Drayton, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, who delivered a presentation entitled “Values in a Everyone a Changemaker World.”

As part of NYU Stern’s CEO Series, Charles E. “Ed” Haldeman, Jr., CEO of Freddie Mac, the second largest source of mortgage financing in the United States, offered his perspective on the future of the US housing market, its role in the broader economy and the leadership principles he has applied throughout his career, before an audience of close to 100 NYU Stern students, faculty and alumni. Eighth Annual NYU Stern-Citi Conference in Leadership & Ethics on "Business 4 Government: Leveraging Eco-Efficiency at the Local Level"

William C. Dudley, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, shared his outlook for economic activity in the United States, employment and inflation, and described the implications for monetary policy before an audience of approximately 200 NYU Stern students, faculty and alumni in Paulson Auditorium.

Emil Tedeschi, founder, president and CEO of Atlantic Grupa in Croatia, provided an energetic and fascinating presentation to NYU Stern Executive MBA students.

To mark the establishment of the Alan Greenspan Chair in Economics, Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan (BS ’48, MA ’50, PhD ’77, Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science ’05) was interviewed by John A. Paulson (BS ’78), the president of Paulson & Co. Inc, before a packed auditorium of more than 400 students, faculty and alumni.

“New York is the apple of the universe,” said Felix Rohatyn, Lazard investment banker, former US Ambassador to France and author of Dealings: A Political and Financial Life, before an auditorium filled with close to 150 students and alumni from NYU Stern, as well as students from NYU’s School of Law and Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

Led by Scott Galloway, NYU Stern Professor of Marketing, L2 founder and creator of the Digital IQ Index, Innovation Forum 2010 was packed with people, as well as ideas on digital marketing innovation and implications for prestige brands.

As part of the 2010 Aspen in New York Business & Society Forum, Erik Schatzker, anchor and editor-at-large at Bloomberg, led a discussion about defining and measuring success among three panelists – 2002 Nobel Laureate in Economics and Princeton psychologist, Daniel Kahneman; Chairman and CEO of The Vanguard Group Bill McNabb; and the holder of the first endowed chair in Buddhist Studies in the West, Columbia University Professor Robert Thurman – at NYU Stern this October.

As part of NYU Stern’s CEO Series, James S. Turley, Chairman & CEO of Ernst & Young, was interviewed in October before more than 100 NYU Stern students and alumni. Diane Brady, senior editor at Bloomberg BusinessWeek, conducted the interview.

On Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8, NYU Stern and the National Council of Applied Economic Research, India, with support from the World Bank, held a workshop on "Restoring Inclusive Growth in Advanced Economies" to encourage dialogue among economists and policy makers from the G20 countries.

Second quarter corporate earnings reports showing strong growth from luxury retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Tiffany indicate that high-end brands, vs. mass market retailers, are leading in the economic recovery. Academic and industry experts explain why and discuss the future of the global luxury sector.

On August 2, NYU Stern hosted Timothy Geithner, US Secretary of the Treasury, who gave his first public remarks since the enactment of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The Secretary addressed the core principles that will guide the implementation of these historic reforms.

At NYU Stern in April, CEO and President of China Merchants Bank Dr. Weihua Ma addressed students, professors and the press about the globalization of the Chinese banking industry and his bank’s vision for success in the global markets.

Former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson was interviewed by Morgan Stanley Chairman John Mack before an audience of hundreds of NYU Stern, Law School and Wagner Graduate School of Public Service students and alumni on March 3 at the Stern School of Business. CNN Money taped the event and broadcast it intermittently the following day.

Morgan Stanley Chairman John Mack was on campus March 2 to address leadership development with NYU Stern MBA students in an intimate classroom setting. Interviewed by Stern Professor Diana Mayer, who teaches the MBA elective course Authentic Leadership Development, Mack spoke about the lessons he learned from leading on Wall Street, day to day and in times of crisis.

Naomi Klein, author of Shock Doctrine, and NYU Stern Dean Peter Henry spoke to undergraduate students in the course, “Business and Its Publics,” a part of the Social Impact Core requirement for all Stern freshmen, about big picture issues in today’s global markets.

As part of NYU Stern’s CEO Series, Thomson Reuters CEO Tom Glocer was interviewed in February before NYU Stern students and alumni by Pulitzer-Prize-winning reporter Stephen Adler, senior vice president and editorial director of the Professional division of Thomson Reuters.

Hundreds of NYU Stern and Law students and alumni attended Stern’s CEO Series on October 12 with NYU Law alumnus Barry Salzberg (LLM ’81), Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte LLP, which provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, and tax services to more than 80 percent of the world's largest companies.

More than 100 alumni gathered at NYU Stern on September 17 to celebrate the publication of Dr. Henry Kaufman’s (BA ’48 (Heights), PhD ‘58) newest book, “The Road to Financial Reformation: Warnings, Consequences and Reforms,” and to hear his prescient insights into the mistakes that led to the financial crisis and his recommendations to prevent its repetition.

On June 4, 2009, a group of twenty people comprised of senior business and law faculty and business practitioners (and including among their numbers a small contingent of former senior government officials) was jointly convened by The Aspen Institute and New York University with support from Ernst & Young to discuss responses to the current economic crisis and to explore the role of financial market regulations in fostering economic recovery and growth.
