Health and Wellness Support


NYU Student Health Center

The Student Health Center is still here for you with most services now offered virtually. While all medical walk-in and mental health drop-in services are closed, you are able to make a virtual appointment or call at: (212) 443-1000 for urgent medical needs, or (212) 443-9999 for urgent mental health needs.


NYU Counseling and Wellness Services

Counseling - To make a virtual appointment for your mental health needs, there is now access to virtual counseling. Counseling Services offers virtual individual counseling, group counseling, wellness workshops, referrals, and long-term psychiatric medication services. You can even attend Virtual Drop-In Hours if you need to speak to a counselor, but don't have an appointment, by calling the Wellness Exchange at (212) 443-9999 to arrange a Virtual Drop-in.

Psychiatry Needs - If you need a short-term refill of medication until you can see your prescriber by appointment, prescribing staff are also available during Virtual Drop-in hours. Call the Wellness Exchange at (212) 443-9999 to arrange a virtual visit with a psychiatrist.

Virtual Wellness Workshops

Virtual Wellness Workshops (previously known as “Toolkits”) are a great resource while adjusting to remote-learning with NYU. Wellness Workshops like Life Skills, Mindfulness Workshop, Stress Management, and more can be found on this website. To join, please call Counseling and Wellness Services at (212) 998-4780 or email Genny Cuocci LCSW, CASAC at gc914@nyu.edu prior to the workshop start time.


Virtual Group Counseling

NYU also now offers Group Counseling virtually. Group therapy provides a safe and confidential place to explore concerns around various issues, and all groups at NYU are led by trained therapists. Virtual Group Counseling involves supportive sessions such as Stress Management Workshop (formerly Coronavirus Support Group), Transgender, Gender Nonconforming & Non-Binary Group, Getting to Know You: A CBT Approach to Social Anxiety, Survivor Support and Empowerment for Women and more. A full list with instructions on how to enroll in Virtual Group Counseling can be found on this website.


Virtual Recovery

Counseling and Wellness Services offers free, non-judgmental, and confidential virtual assistance to NYU students who have concerns related to their use of alcohol or other drugs. Learn about services for students in recovery, including the SAFE Program. The SAFE program helps students examine their own substance-related behaviors in a safe, judgment-free environment. To make a virtual appointment (via Zoom or phone), call (212) 998-4780. For additional information about the SAFE program please contact Genny Cuocci LCSW, CASAC at (212) 992-5678 or gc914@nyu.edu.


Moses Center for Student Accessibility

At this time, Moses Center for Student Accessibility will still be reviewing applications for academic and housing accommodations. Students are able to apply for academic accommodations, while students seeking housing accommodations should visit this site to review necessary steps. The Center encourages students to contact their accessibility specialist regarding questions or concerns on services, and are also free to contact the Center at mosescsd@nyu.edu.

MindfulNYU

In addition to curating resources that are available online, MindfulNYU now hosts daily yoga classes, group meditation, and mindfulness workshops for students, faculty and staff remotely by phone and Zoom. Their event schedule and point of contact are available here.
 


International Support


NYU Office of Global Services

While the Office of Global Services is now closed for in-person visits as a response to COVID-19, students may speak with an OGS advisor regarding an international matter including travel, by scheduling an online advising appointment. If you are a visiting research scholar you may email ogs.scholars@nyu.edu to schedule a time to talk.
 


Meal Access


NYU Courtesy Meals

NYU established the Courtesy Meals program to provide free, immediate, short-term food support to enrolled students who are in need of food assistance. By filling out the Courtesy Meals Virtual Request Form, you will receive a $75 credit of dining dollars on your NYU ID. This credit can be used to purchase grab-and-go meals from Palladium Hall. Palladium Hall is located at 140 East 14th Street, and the updated dining hours of Palladium Hall can be found here. Any questions may be sent by email to nyucourtesymeals@nyu.edu.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Health Alert & FAQ

NYU is in direct contact with state and local health departments and is closely following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. For support on FAQ such as “I have symptoms. What should I do,” and “How can I reduce my risk of exposure to COVID-19,” NYU has your answers as well as Health Services & Resources on this page.


Ask a Scientist

The NYU Tandon Governance Lab has collaborated with the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) to create a Coronavirus comprehensive FAQ site, with a “Ask a scientist your question,” feature that allows you to seek information you may not have found already listed.


Updates and Research Resources

The NYU Health Sciences Library has created a website with updates from official health agencies, and an extensive collection of research resources for access to currently known knowledge of the Coronavirus. This website is accessible to students as well as the general public.
 


Technology Services


Student Remote Instruction Readiness Guide

In adjusting to remote learning, NYU has offered a Distance Learning Guide for Students with resources and help for connecting to the internet, utilizing malware and antivirus protection, and assistance accessing any specialized software necessary for classes.

For additional resources, we have included this Student Remote Instruction Readiness Guide by NYU Steinhardt. For IT support, Stern students should contact NYU Stern IT at helpdesk@stern.nyu.edu, or NYU’s 24/7 IT team at askIT@nyu.edu.


NYU ServiceLink

In addition to the above resources, NYU ServiceLink is also available for troubleshooting guides for all NYU-supported tools (like NYU Classes, NYU Stream, Zoom, Google Drive, etc).


Zoom Technical Support

There are multiple methods of reaching technical help and guidance on NYU’s video conferencing platform, Zoom, including this Zoom Guide for Students. For often faster technical support when using Zoom, we recommend you contact Zoom’s 24/7 technical support. You can also review Zoom’s support resources for any further questions.


NYU Libraries Software

The NYU Libraries has provided a Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) available for NYU students. Get started at the VCL webpage where you can access specialty software packages for statistical analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), and qualitative data analysis. The Digital Studio provides tools and training for multimedia capture, production, and publication for audio, video, and images using various editing and delivery tools and platforms, as well as file storage and management.


MLA Bringing Your Courses Online

The MLA has pulled together strategies, guidelines, and lessons from members of the Humanities Commons community to help you quickly bring your face-to-face or hybrid course online during this response to COVID-19. View the site or contribute to the conversation by submitting a resource.

NYU Librarian Consultations

The Ask-a-Librarian service, which is available around the clock for any Libraries questions you may have, as well as access to subject specialists for questions relevant to librarians specializing in a variety of specific fields.

Librarians are also available for consultations on Zoom! Set up an appointment by filling out the Libraries Research Help form.


Library E-resources

Students can readily access academic materials within the NYU Libraries system by using the search bar on the library homepage and browsing online databases.

Materials are also available in Ebook Central, and now with expanded access to the EBSCO ebook collection on a trial basis. Check out the EBSCO ebook collection and let the NYU Librarians know how helpful it has been for you.


New York Public Library SimplyE Free Reader App

During this temporary closing period of the New York Public Libraries, the NYPL has granted access to over 300,000 e-books through the SimplyE reader app, available to download both on Google Play and the App Store. Apply for a library card via the app to gain access to the books, and visit the NYPL SimplyE website for more information.
