Giulia Brancaccio awarded the 2025 Carlo Alberto Medal

Assistant Professor of Economics Giulia Brancaccio has been awarded the 2025 Carlo Alberto Medal. This biennial award by the Collegio Carlo Alberto recognizes an Italian scholar under the age of 40 for outstanding research contributions to the field of economics.

The award announcement noted Brancaccio’s innovative research at the intersection of industrial organization and market design that combines theoretical modeling with empirical analysis. According to the Collegio Carlo Alberto announcement, Brancaccio’s research has made “significant contributions to our understanding of spatial economics, search frictions in decentralized trade, and international trade.” 

Brancaccio received her B.A. from Bocconi University and her Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. She started her academic career at Cornell University, and joined the NYU Stern Department of Economics in 2021. She has received many other prizes, including the Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society for the best applied paper in Econometrica, and the NYU Stern Yuki Arai Faculty Research Prize for the best research paper in financial economics by a Stern faculty member.

An award ceremony will be held at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in fall 2025.
