What is a Master of Science in Business Analytics and AI and who is it for?

The MS in Business Analytics and AI program is designed for experienced professionals and managers. These individuals have responsibilities in areas that help drive greater efficiencies, manage costs, and identify growth opportunities. Participants come from a broad range of sectors: consumer products, energy, financial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrials, technologies, NGOs, consulting, etc.

While enrolled in the MSBAi program, working professionals can access NYU Stern’s Working Professionals Careers team for individualized coaching and development. Students may schedule career coaching appointments and participate in workshops on résumé reviews, interview preparation, salary negotiations, networking, and personal brand management. The team does not operate as a placement office; instead, it partners with you as a coach to help refine goals, leverage experience, and maximize the value of your professional network.
After graduation, MSBAi alumni gain continued access to career resources offered through the Working Professionals Careers team, including:

How do I apply to the MS in Business Analytics and AI program at Stern?

No. The MS in Business Analytics and AI program is designed for current working professionals. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed bachelor's degree with a strong Grade Point Average (there is no specific GPA requirement)
  • Full-time, professional work experience after completing your undergraduate degree (internships and trainee positions are not considered)
  • Demonstrated academic preparedness through prior coursework, professional experience, and/or certifications

If you are still completing your undergraduate degree or do not yet have full-time, post-undergraduate work experience, we encourage you to revisit the program once you have gained the necessary experience.

No, GMAT and GRE scores are not required to apply to the MSBAi program.

Official transcripts are required. While we can accept unofficial transcripts as part of your application for initial assessment purposes, we must receive your official transcripts directly from any institutions from which you hold a completed degree in order for you to enroll in the MSBAi program. Official transcripts should be released directly to our office at msbai@stern.nyu.edu.

We must receive at least one professional recommendation through the online recommendation form. The recommendation must be completed by your current or most recent previous supervisor. If you are self-employed, you may invite a current or recent client to complete the recommendation. 

While only one recommendation is required, you are welcome to invite additional recommenders to submit recommendation forms on your behalf. Please note that recommendations from professors, coworkers, family members, and friends will not satisfy our recommendation requirements.

Race and ethnicity data collected in the application is not provided to admissions committee members for use in the application-selection process. This data is collected for alternative purposes including but not limited to government and accreditation reporting requirements.

What are Other Questions to Consider?

In recognition of the value of classroom learning, MS in Business Analytics and AI features six modules of intensive, in-person class sessions. Between these class sessions (modules,) there are no synchronous online classes, but there are approximately 20-25 hours of asynchronous remote learning per week. These distance learning periods outside of the in-class sessions are called the Pre-Module and Post-Module phases. They are 4-8 weeks long and take place before and after each module. You will receive preparatory materials, such as readings, academic exercises and assignments during the Pre-Module period. The Post-Module period is is designed to help students review and solidify concepts learned in class. It may include additional readings and/or deliverables in the form of an assignment, exam, case study, or group project.

Prior to starting the program, enrolled students will be required to acknowledge that they have communicated the time commitment the program requires to their employers.

Organizations create massive collections of data and increasingly, decision-makers and systems rely on intelligent technology to analyze data systematically to improve decision-making. Most of the courses in the MSBAi program curriculum brings together the power of data and AI, from using automation to identify interesting patterns in data to using deep learning to develop accurate insights and predictions. For example, courses like Business Analytics and AI and Big Data focus on in-depth hands-on exploration of various cutting-edge information technologies used for big data analytics. The Machine Learning course provides exposure to state-of-the-art methods and applications of supervised and unsupervised machine learning. Modern Artificial Intelligence introduces students to recent developments through the coverage of fundamental AI concepts, practical business applications and hands-on experiences with modern AI frameworks.

MS in Business Analytics and AI graduates receive an NYU Master of Science degree from the Stern School of Business.

The global module immerses students in a unique global hub for business analytics, AI, and innovation. It includes company visits, guest speakers from leading regional organizations, and networking opportunities with local professionals, offering valuable insights into international business, analytics, and AI  practices in a very different global market.

Applicants may only apply to one NYU Stern program per start term. If you are not offered admission to the program or withdraw your application during the cycle, you may request to apply to a different program in the same admissions cycle. All requests must be sent to msbai@stern.nyu.edu and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Your request must be approved before you begin your new application.

International students are welcome and encouraged to apply to the MS in Business Analytics and AI program. Admissions policies and tuition fees are the same for both international and non-international students. In order to facilitate visa processing, international students are encouraged to submit applications for each of the US-based modules as soon as they are put in touch with our dedicated MSBAi Program Manager. Please note that international students are responsible for the costs incurred for the SEVIS/visa fee applications throughout their tenure as students.

No. The NYU Stern MS in Business Analytics and AI (MSBAi) program is offered exclusively in a part-time, modular format designed for working professionals. Students attend six intensive modules over the course of one year, allowing them to continue working full-time while completing the program.

No. The MSBAi program does not qualify for Optional Practical Training (OPT). While the program is STEM designated and open to international students, please note that due to the part-time, modular nature of the program, students are not eligible for OPT.

MSBAi is a STEM-designated degree program. This designation can be beneficial for students as there is a growing demand for STEM skill sets in today's market.
