He recently spoke with Stern about healthcare’s increasing reliance on analytics and AI, how his capstone project exemplified how the program improved his ability to create impactful financial models and promote data-driven solutions, and the immediate value his experience with Stern has added to his career.
Where were you in your career when you decided to pursue this MSBA program? Why did you choose Stern over other avenues?
"I was the Director of Finance in the Department of Neurology at NYU Langone Health. I chose NYU Stern’s program because of its strong emphasis on international study, its alignment with my professional goals of advancing data-driven decision-making in healthcare, and its potential to elevate my self-taught analytics skills into a structured, professional toolkit."
Why was now the moment to make a big investment in yourself and pursue this degree?
"At this stage in my career, I had already developed tools that improved financial reporting and budgeting in my department. However, I recognized that further education was necessary to increase the sophistication, accuracy, and impact of those tools. With the healthcare industry becoming more reliant on analytics and AI, now was the opportune time to formally build out my capabilities and stay ahead of the curve."
What excites you about the field of analytics and artificial intelligence, and how do you see yourself contributing to the field? How will your experience at Stern help you make that contribution?
"What excites me most is the ability of analytics and AI to transform raw data into actionable insights that can improve operational efficiency and patient outcomes. My goal is to continue building automated financial models that free up analysts’ time for higher-value tasks and to spread these tools throughout healthcare. Stern’s curriculum and global focus have equipped me with the technical knowledge and diverse perspectives necessary to implement these tools on a larger scale and to educate others about their potential benefits."
What has the immediate value-add of the program been on your career?
"The program has significantly improved my ability to create impactful financial models and promote data-driven solutions. A notable example of this is my capstone project, which I conducted within my company. The results of our data envelopment analysis directly influenced the stakeholders' perspective on efficiency across various departments within the organization. I look forward to gaining further value, including an expanded professional network and enhanced leadership capabilities to drive technological change."
What are some specific skills you gained in the program, whether technical understanding, or soft skills and interpersonal networking skills?
"I have developed technical skills in data visualization, predictive modeling, and automating financial analysis using programming languages, particularly Python, which I learned during this program. Additionally, the program has enhanced my ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to stakeholders and has provided me with valuable international and cross-industry perspectives that support strategic decision-making."
What three words would you use to describe your experience in the program?
"Transformative. Global. Networking."
