About the MSBAi Program
The MSBAi program follows a blended (hybrid) format, combining in-person learning with structured coursework completed remotely.
Students attend six required in-person modules in New York City and a global location, where classes are held full-time during the day (approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with some evening engagements).
Between modules, students complete coursework through NYU Stern’s online learning platform. This includes assignments, readings, and group work, which can be completed on a flexible schedule. There are no required live online classes between modules.
Students should expect to spend approximately 20–25 hours per week on coursework during these periods.
This advanced business degree program teaches students to gain a competitive edge by synthesizing data to make better decisions. Through its unique program design, students will gain experience in quantitative and technical methods as well as further develop their strategic and business management skills.
NYU Stern is both a top rated business school and one of the world’s leading research institutions. Our students have access to world-renowned faculty members, who are global thought leaders, industry veterans, strategic advisors, and creators of new knowledge.
The program’s part-time format not only reduces office leave, but also allows students to apply learning in real-time, creating a positive impact on job performance immediately.
The MS in Business Analytics and AI experience is a global one, allowing students to expand their international network. Students benefit from exposure to cultures, industries and companies throughout the world, as well as cross-learning among their cohorts.

Yes, the NYU Stern MS in Business Analytics and AI (MSBAi) is a STEM-designated degree. However, due to the program’s part-time, modular format, students are not eligible for OPT.
The MSBAi program is designed to sit at the intersection of business strategy and advanced analytics.
While students learn technical skills such as programming and machine learning, the program emphasizes:
- Applying analytics and AI to business decision-making
- Translating data insights into actionable strategy
- Understanding organizational and managerial impact
This makes it particularly well-suited for professionals who want to lead data-driven initiatives, rather than focus solely on technical model development.
The MSBAi program sits at the intersection of business strategy and advanced analytics, offering a distinct alternative to both MBA and data science degrees.
- Compared to an MBA:
An MBA provides broad business leadership training across functions such as finance, marketing, and management.
MSBAi is more specialized, focusing on how to use data and AI to inform decisions, making it ideal for professionals who want to deepen their analytical capabilities rather than pursue a general management curriculum. - Compared to an MS in Data Science:
Data science programs are typically more technical and focus on areas such as software engineering, algorithms, and model development.
MSBAi emphasizes application over pure technical depth, teaching students how to apply analytics and AI in business contexts, interpret results, and drive strategic decisions.
In short, MSBAi is designed for professionals who want to bridge the gap between technical analytics and business impact.
The NYU Stern MS in Business Analytics and AI (MSBAi) program is designed for working professionals who want to apply analytics and AI to real business decisions.
Several features differentiate MSBAi from other programs:
- Part-time, modular format: Students continue working while completing six intensive in-person modules, applying what they learn in real time
- Focus on AI in business: The curriculum integrates modern AI topics—including machine learning, causal inference, and emerging AI applications—within a business decision-making context
- World-class faculty: Courses are taught by NYU Stern’s senior, full-time faculty—who are globally recognized researchers and thought leaders—alongside experienced industry practitioners. This combination ensures students learn both cutting-edge theory and practical applications in areas such as causal inference, generative AI, applied statistics, and business analytics
- Global experience: The program includes an international module, providing exposure to different markets and business environments
- Balanced skill set: Students develop capabilities across data engineering, analytics, and storytelling, bridging technical and strategic skills
- Diverse cohort: Students come from a wide range of industries and career stages—including early-career professionals and more experienced leaders—creating a dynamic learning environment with rich perspectives and peer learning
Rather than preparing students for a single technical role, the program is designed to help professionals use data and AI to drive impact within their organizations.
The MSBAi program is accredited by AACSB.
This program has only one intake per year in May. Therefore, we do not run on a spring/fall schedule. Please see our Admissions page for more information.

International Students
International students are welcome and encouraged to apply to the MS in Business Analytics and AI program. Admissions policies and tuition fees are the same for both international and non-international students. In order to facilitate visa processing, international students are encouraged to submit applications for each of the US-based modules as soon as they are put in touch with our dedicated MSBAi Program Manager. Please note that international students are responsible for the costs incurred for the SEVIS/visa fee applications throughout their tenure as students.
Generally the TOEFL score is not required for individuals who have received a degree from a university where the instruction was in English or use English in the workplace. However, the Admissions Committee reserves the right to request a TOEFL score if they feel they need one in order to make a fully informed admissions decision.
We do not accept IELTS or Duolingo scores.
NYU sponsors international students for F-1 student status, and F-1 status is the most common type of status used to study in the United States. F-1 status is for Stern academic students who are pursuing a degree or certificate and will only last for the duration of the in-class module and/or semester. Students apply for an I-20 in order to receive an F-1 visa. Please note that the visa will not be valid for the entire year and is only valid for the times listed on each I-20. International students may apply for one I-20 document to support an F-1 visa for for Modules 1-3 but will need a separate I-20 document for the subsequent US module. As such, students would not be eligible for OPT.
The NYU Office of Global Services (OGS), in partnership with the Academic Affairs and Student Services team, can help determine if students will need an F-1 visa for the program and if so, will help them through the I-20 process for each US-based module. Please note that international students are responsible for the costs incurred for the SEVIS/visa fee applications throughout their tenure as students.
Most MSBAi international students finance the program through a combination of company sponsorship, private loans, and personal finances. Private loans are non-federal loans that are offered through lenders such as banks or credit unions. Most private lenders require non-U.S. citizens and permanent residents to apply with a U.S. based co-signer.
Some students are also successful in receiving financial support from their employers. For students who are planning on having these discussions, we are happy to provide a template to help them frame the program and its benefits.
We require transcripts to be officially translated. This can be done through an official translator, but the documents must be notarized.
No. The MSBAi program does not qualify for Optional Practical Training (OPT). While the program is STEM designated and open to international students, please note that due to the part-time, modular nature of the program, students are not eligible for OPT.

In addition to the career-related resources outlined here, which are available to all NYU Stern alumni, our MSBAi alumni have access to the greater Stern Lifelong Learning program as well. For example, MSBAi alumni are exclusively eligible to audit future MSBAi courses (beginning with Module 2), as well as to audit the same courses as Full Time and Part Time MBA students.
Financing
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will indeed impact federal student loan borrowing by gradually eliminating the Grad PLUS loan program. Students who have borrowed any type of Direct Loan (Unsubsidized or PLUS) prior to July 1, 2026, and who are currently enrolled in a credentialed program, will be permitted to continue borrowing under the existing program for a period not to exceed three academic years or the remainder of their anticipated time to complete the program, whichever comes first.
Students who enroll in the MSBAi Class of 2027, which begins in May of 2026, will have access to the GradPLUS loan program and will be able to borrow for the entirety of the program. Students who enroll in future MSBAi classes would no longer have access to the GradPLUS loan program, as it will be discontinued by that point.
The MSBAi program is designed to deliver both immediate and long-term return on investment.
Because students remain employed while enrolled, many are able to apply what they learn in real time—using analytics and AI tools to drive impact within their current roles and organizations.
Graduates are well positioned to:
- Advance within their current organization
- Transition into more data- and analytics-focused roles
- Expand their responsibilities to include AI and data-driven strategy
In addition to career progression, students gain a highly transferable skill set in data analysis, machine learning, and decision-making, which can be applied across industries and functions.
To see how graduates have leveraged the program in their careers, we encourage you to explore our Alumni Profiles page.
