About Olivia Foster Gimbel:

Olivia Foster-Gimbel started her PhD at Stern in 2018. She studies allyship, the efforts of those who actively work for equity for marginalized groups, not as a member of that group but in solidarity with its struggle. Her research focuses on challenges that allyship brings, such as evoking negative emotional responses or questioning taken-for-granted policies, and how organizational interventions can increase effort and commitment to social equity goals. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. She has been awarded a Global Research Institute Fellowship and a Responsible Research in Business and Management "Dare to Care" Dissertation Scholarship for her work. In addition to studying social equity, Olivia is passionate about creating an inclusive classroom environment and am committed to reducing social inequity in her community.
