Graduate Convocation and Commencement Ceremonies

The Graduation Convocation ceremony is the Stern School's own graduation ceremony held in May. Graduate Convocation activities include speakers, presentation of candidates for graduation and conferring of prizes and awards, with a reception following. Invitations for the Graduate Convocation are sent to those graduating in September, January and May of the same academic year (for example: Sept. 2013--May 2014 graduates). Information on the Graduate Convocation ceremony will be mailed by the Stern Office of Special Events by about mid-March.

The Commencement ceremony is the University's graduation ceremony which is also held in May. The ceremony includes a major address, a student valedictory, the awarding of honorary degrees to distinguished individuals and the conferring of degrees for all fifteen schools and colleges of New York University. One ceremony a year, an annual ceremony, in May, is held for September, January and May graduates. Relevant information will be mailed by the Office of University Events by about mid-March.
