One sentence quote about your experience at NYU Stern so far:
A time to grow professionally and personally while surrounded by an inspiring and collaborative community.
Why did you decide to pursue the focused one-year MBA program?
I wanted to stay in the tech industry but pivot from an engineer role to a product role, so having an MBA program that's focused on tech is a huge plus. The shorter time frame also meant that I'd be able to return to the work force sooner, which was an important factor for me.
How would you describe the culture and community within your class?
NYU Stern is known for IQ + EQ, and I have to say that it’s really shown during my time here so far. We have a lot of group projects in our classes, and everyone is always so encouraging and willing to help each other. In every group I’ve worked with, we always cover each other’s shortcomings and acknowledge each other’s strengths. It’s been really motivating and reassuring to have this collaborative environment and mindset.
What has been your favorite class at Stern? Why?
My favorite class so far has been Leadership with Professor Nate Pettit during our Summer term. The combination of insightful case studies, reflective exercises, and in-class discussions really challenged me to think about what kind of leader I want to be. It was one of those classes that sticks with you beyond the classroom.
What has been a highlight of your Stern experience?
A highlight of my Stern experience would be the fact that we formed deep connections and friendships really quickly. After just the summer term together, a few of us took a trip to Italy, and we're constantly planning events together for birthdays, weekend trips, and holidays. It’s rare to find such authentic friendships in such a short time, and it’s made the experience that much more meaningful.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
Be real and be vulnerable. This is the time to learn new things and have stretch experiences that will push you out of your comfort zone. All the work and socializing can sometimes get overwhelming, but everyone is going through it together and it's important to just enjoy the process!
How has Stern’s location in NYC impacted your experience?
Stern’s location has been such a unique advantage. We had many opportunities to visit and learn at so many amazing companies and offices around the city, such as Google, Amazon, BCG, and many more, through the NYC Immersion course. The speakers are usually alumni who are eager to share their experiences and help us succeed, as long as you make the effort to reach out and stay connected.
