Humans of Stern: Avani More (BS/BFA '27)

Humans of Stern is a series in which we meet the real people who study and work at the NYU Stern Undergraduate College. Today, we’re excited for Avani More (BS/BFA'27) to answer our questions about everything from her favorite classes, studying away at NYU Florence, and her most memorable moments interning at SNL.

Name: Avani More
Class Year: 2027
Degree Program: BS/BFA
Fun Facts:

  • Hometown: Edison, NJ
  • I’m Head of Finance at the Fusion Film Festival.
  • I’m currently fostering a shelter cat!

What brought you to NYU Stern/NYC?

I had always passed by the NYU buildings when I came to the city, and I felt so in awe of Gould Plaza and the glass dome of the Kaufman Center. Once I got to NYU, I began in Filmmaking at Tisch. Knowing I wanted to be in the BS/BFA program, I would often study at Stern. Now I am pursuing degrees in both!

What’s your favorite class and why?

I love my Law, Business, and Society class as it has really opened my eyes to a new way of thinking using legal reasoning, and seeing the interconnection with business is really interesting to me.

What do you do with your weekends?

I don’t typically get many weekends, as I work at Saturday Night Live, which entails late Saturdays in the live studio. It has been such a cool and rewarding experience where I’m learning so much and meeting amazing people!

How has your time at Stern shaped what your goals are for your future?

I’ve really come to understand the importance of cross-sectionality being at Stern. Learning about the ways business interacts with different industries really excites me, and I hope that going forward, I can combine my passions for business with entertainment and technology.

What is your fondest memory so far during your time here?

I had a great time cramming for finals with my friends. We were working on the whiteboards in one of the Stern classrooms. My friend, who was a chem major, had filled the entire room with organic chemistry notes, and it had gotten to the 10 hour mark, and it was just a beautiful moment where we were all so delirious from studying but were still in good company. It made pushing through and studying together worth it.

Where is the coolest place Stern has taken you globally? Or where would you like to go?

I was able to study abroad at the NYU Florence campus last spring, and it was such an amazing experience. The villa there was beautiful, and much of the dining hall food, including the famous Villa Pietra olive oil, is made directly from the gardens on campus.

Where’s your favorite place in the city and why?

My favorite place is actually a food truck on 14th and 3rd in front of Palladium Hall called Santa Halal. I always stop by there to get the best chicken over rice in the city for only $7. It’s open during the evenings when I need dinner or even at 3 am for a late night bite.

Anything exciting you’d like to share?

A super cool experience I had this summer was getting to experience an employees-only Love Island pop-up during my internship at NBCU. We had themed breakfast bars, free hats, and a photobooth. It definitely felt like I was in the villa!
