Global Experience Requirement

Students in the Classes of 2027 and 2028 (first-year students starting in Fall 2023 and Fall 2024) are required to complete the Global Experience requirement* as a part of their degree requirements. Most Stern undergraduates will fulfill the Global Experience requirement with the following Stern or NYU credit-bearing travel programs:

*BS in Business and Political Economy (BPE) and BS in Business students in the First Year in London Opportunity (FYLO) fulfill this requirement with global experiences already built into their programs.

Global Experience Requirement Financial Aid

NYU Stern is committed to making global opportunities accessible for students with demonstrated financial need and additional scholarship aid is available to help students offset the travel and/or programmatic expenses associated with the above programs.

NYU Global Semester Away

Students who currently receive financial aid from NYU will have their NYU financial aid package applied to their fall or spring semester away at an NYU Global Academic Center. The cost of tuition and registration fees remains the same as in New York. The room, board, and cost of living expenses vary per location and NYU provides a Study Away Cost Estimates chart to compare locations.

Additional scholarship aid for NYU Global semester away: NYU will automatically review students who have been admitted for a semester at an NYU Global Academic Center, for the Global Pathways Scholarship and Global Programs Administered Awards. Visit the NYU Study Abroad Scholarships and Financial Aid website for complete information and requirements.

The cost of fall or spring semester tuition and registration fees remains the same as in New York. The room, board, and cost of living expenses vary per location and partner school. Estimated cost information is provided for each of our IBEX partner schools. Note: a summer IBEX program is not covered by the annual financial aid package.

Stern Around the World (SAW) Short-term Global Immersion

Stern short-term global immersion programs combine an academic course, typically worth 3 credits, taught in New York either during the fall or spring semester, with a short travel experience during a school break. The tuition for these courses is included in the semester tuition for full-time students (fall or spring) and there is a separate fee for the travel and programmatic expenses associated with the travel.

Additional scholarship aid for SAW Short-term Global Immersion: Stern provides need-based scholarship aid in the form of a Stern Global Immersion Scholarship for students with demonstrated financial need. First-year Stern students with demonstrated financial need, will be automatically awarded a Stern Global Immersion Scholarship that can be used toward one Stern short-term global immersion experience during their Stern undergraduate college career, should they choose to participate in one of the short-term immersion programs. Student recipients will receive a separate communication regarding the details of the award, which is not transferable to another global experience. Immersion locations change periodically and a specific location cannot be guaranteed.
