CSB Student Worker Reflection: Data Driven Operations

Cyrus Luong

I have always held an interest in the intersection of sustainability and the business world throughout my time at Stern, and I’ve pursued it through both my coursework and my past experiences. This opportunity to work with CSB on the student audit team allowed me to pursue this interest of creating social good and tangible impact through the business world.

Through this auditing role with CSB, I had the opportunity to strengthen my own technical skills in Salesforce. I was able to research over 1500 CSB contacts across varying roles, industries, and regions that opened my eyes to the diverse career paths through which sustainability principles are applied. I discovered new organizations that were working towards creating a sustainable economy and positive social impact all around the world. This exposure broadened my understanding of the wide range of sustainable business careers and organizations in practice.

In addition to discovering new applications of sustainability in business contexts, I also was able to gain a new appreciation towards the operations of an organization focused on sustainable business. Through my contact audit work with the student team, we were able to improve CSB’s outreach and communications to sustainability-related organizations and stakeholders.

Reflecting on my experience with CSB, I had a great semester working and learning about the operations behind sustainability-focused organizations. It has not only allowed me to discover the inner workings of CSB and other sustainability organizations, but also reinforced my interests in sustainable business practices by introducing me to the wide range of roles at the intersection of business, sustainability, and social impact. I am grateful for the semester I was able to work with CSB for, and I hope to be able to potentially work with the center again in the future!
