A Message from the Dean
It’s hard to believe my first year as Dean has already gone by. I’m so grateful that along the way, I had the chance to meet so many alumni in NYC and around the world. In nearly every conversation, alumni eagerly shared their personal stories about why Stern is so important to them and asked, 'What can I do to help?'
Well before I stepped on campus last August, I knew this place was special. Yet it was difficult to pinpoint one of the most important reasons why. A year later, after meeting hundreds of faculty, students, administrators, and alumni, I have a better sense of it.
What I’ve come to appreciate most is the culture here. Stern combines warmth and competence in a way that is rare. It’s a place where excellence and kindness reinforce each other. That’s a powerful foundation to do great things.
We have an unusual combination of assets to build with: New York City, a truly global university, and the possibilities now created by AI. We can integrate New York more deeply into how our students learn and how our faculty engage with practice. We can create new experiences by connecting learning and ideas across our global locations. And we can use AI to expand what’s possible while strengthening what is distinctly human about education: judgment, creativity, relationships, and learning from one another.
At a time of rapid change, that combination gives us a remarkable opportunity to build on Stern’s strengths and continue to raise the bar for business education. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.
