During the summer of 2025, Renee Bogda (MBA '26) interned as an NYU Stern MBA Sustainability Fellow at Nespresso. Read on to learn more about her time there:
Name: Renee Bogda
Grad Year: 2026
Specialization: Sustainable Business
This summer, I had the opportunity to serve as Nespresso’s Sustainability Intern through the MBA Summer Fellowship, working across both the Sustainability and Marketing departments. My internship was structured around six portfolio projects designed to advance the company’s commitments to emissions reduction, B Corp recertification readiness, and sustainability marketing.
On the emissions side, I focused on building out emissions reduction strategies for initiatives that were actionable and within the company’s direct control. These included developing an office circularity strategy to deepen employees’ engagement with sustainability through improved recycling efforts, and conducting a flight emissions analysis with reduction recommendations to help the company optimize lower-emission travel options. For B Corp recertification, I researched the newly revised B Lab standards and their implications for Nespresso, identifying lobbying-related challenges that could hinder compliance while benchmarking the company against other large B Corporations. On the marketing front, I supported campaigns that spotlight Nespresso’s sustainability efforts, from laying the groundwork for an LA Compost Campaign benefiting wildfire-affected soils to preparing the launch of redesigned recycling bags and enhancing the sustainability pages of Nespresso’s website for AI purposes.
This experience reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in sustainability from within the private sector. By working across such varied projects, I developed a more holistic view of how a large company approaches sustainability, from high-level commitments like net zero to practical, everyday initiatives that build credibility with employees and customers alike. These lessons will carry forward into my remaining time at Stern, where I hope to bring real-world insights into classroom discussions, student initiatives, and my experiential learning courses.
The importance of this work cannot be overstated. Climate change is an existential challenge, and companies that embed sustainability into their core strategies will not only meet the moment but also lead the future of innovation within our global market. Contributing to tangible sustainability work this summer at Nespresso was both inspiring and energizing, and it solidified my belief that business can be a powerful force for positive change.
